On the one hand, I understand why the Z/28 was so exclusive this time around. Z28 was a long in the tooth and abused moniker, so much so that it went hardly noticed by the time the Camaro line went extinct in '02. IMO Chevy wanted to make a big splash and generate interest in the latest Z28 model, so we saw this new version with all exclusive material such as the engine, suspension and body work. It made a great image, but it appeared that Chevy had trouble moving them at the 75K price point.

I am suggesting that Chevy would make the theme and make up of the model simpler (more in line with the 1/LE) so that more enthusiasts could enjoy a Z/28. It is a lot harder to justify 75k and up to regular Chevy customers that are not used to spending that amount on a Chevy product.

But....on the other hand..........look around you.....almost all of GM's nameplates have a model at or near $75k. Price exclusiveness no longer is owned by Cadillac. Everything seems to be more expensive.
GM made a Camaro for everyone and affordable at any price level. I hope this is some sort of joke, misunderstanding or nativity at best. The engine and brakes are a $30k+ "option" over the stock 2SS alone. Have you not been following any of the pro races and owner road tests? It's walking over vehicles costing many multiples.

$55-60k Untitled right now, how much lower does it have to get before you consider it a value exactly?

I drove a ZL1 before I bought my Z/28 and was completely underwhelmed by the experience. I've tried to be polite and diplomatic in the past and say it's a great car, but my real opinion is that it's not. The difference is, I don't find it necessary to go on the ZL1 forum to express that opinion.

I know that you guys CAN pollute these threads, I just don't know why you DO...

I agree 100%. Makes no sense to me either. They do the same thing on the Shelby forum.

Just sayin', from what I recall the ZL-1 and Z/28 are more "related" perhaps than they are different....

...The ZL-1 as it is now known, was slated to become the Z/28....

....If the Z/28 wasn't what you had hoped for when it debuted, you were steered towards the ZL-1 to get what you thought you were missing...

Both different models, now of course, but actually considered more complimentary and optional to each other initially...

Well if it helps anyone I purchased a new 2015 Z/28 yesterday for $56K +TTL. It should be noted you can easily spend the same amount on a well optioned truck or Suburban.

Z/28 is better than ZL1. Before you start remember that I have both.

Track Car

Well the Z28 is never going to be a great drag racer for several reasons. The 427 makes a great NA motor but is inherently weak in terms of motor you can run a lot of boost on if you were wanting to do that later. SO if you were inclined to roll race or drag race the car than the Z28 is not going to be the ticket. It is also NOT advisable to run a lot of nitrous on this engine.

However, if you plan on road racing or autocrossing the car then it would be the better choice because of better brakes, lighter weight, better wheel/tire setup. If you were planning on using it as a daily driver though and you planned on keeping those sticky trofeo tires on the car then that will cost you about 2400 dollars every 2-3 months if you drive 1500 miles a month, which I do.

I really don't have any BIAS here because I have a highly modified SS and on an autcross course both a ZL1 and a Z28 will out handle me. But I like roll racing and other forms of high speed racing so I am set up to be extremely competitive in those areas. Unless you are pushing 1000+ HP then you cant really compete.

Bottom line is it is way too costly and frustrating to make your car do something that it wasn't designed to do from the start. Find out what you enjoy the most and purchase the vehicle that matches best those desires.

Urban legend has spoken. It has to be true.

Although, that is still your opinon. It is not better for me for what I use my Camaro for. Better track car? Sure, that is a proven fact. I don't think anyone is arguing that. It is not better in every way and much of wether it is or isn't is opinion anyhow.

This doesn't make sense. Engine and Brakes are standard on the Z/28. There's no point of even debating the rest of your post.

ZL1 owners, just know that Chevrolet planned to name your car the Z/28, but decided that it wasn't Race Car enough to have the moniker. Not all cars need creature comforts and appeal to every buyer. Get over it and move along, the 6th Gen is going to spank your car anyway.

Better at what? Handling, all around useability? Affordability? Acceleration? Appearance? It is your opinion, of course, but I'd say that all of the camaros are more or less of the same quality being that they're made from the same base car. If a car is really superior then why is there a need to cut the price to sell it?

All of the Camaros are regarded as Chevrolet products, and as such each of them bear the same quality quirks, depreciation (debatable....only the future will show values of a car), and wear and tear.

Better is really a subjective opinion based on a like and dislike; Regardless if you own a model or not.

If I have to answer this then I'll just not answer. Enjoy your ZL1...

I really don't think there's a credible answer IMO. It just appears that this thread has turned into a blind crap slinging affair.....so enjoy yourselves.

The Z/28 that started the Deal thread is 30 minutes from me so I inquired about trading in my ZL1 for it. Sales person took my info but hasn't followed up. At $64K I'm not interested anyway.

I mention that so you know where I'm coming from. The Z/28 looks killer, I lust for the LS7 and I'm of the opinion it will be a valuable car some day. On the other hand it is slower and less comfortable than my ZL1 and has a one speaker sound system. Once I have an LPE 700 done to my car it will be a great drag car, great driver and good track car. IMO the better (useful) car BUT I still would like a Z/28

Love them both
