Mustang rears

Why are the rear tires on a Mustang so thin? I personally think it'd look much better with wider to tires. Btw what are the pros of the wider rear tires.

IMO the tires on all "pony" cars have always been "smaller" in width vs other Performance cars for pure drivability/affordability. Pony cars are more DD vs Corvettes/Vipers/etc Look at the widest tire for the SS/RS - 245 front - 275 rear (2014)

by contrast a 1995 Vette had 255 fronts and 285 rears - that is a 20 year old car - 1967-68 Camaros had 195's (14") and some engines produced a lot of HP on Bias Ply tires..

a 2010 911 Porsche Carrera had 305's as its widest. Who wants to drop $1500-$2000 on good tires at these wider widths for normal driving conditions (non racing)

just my 2 cents worth..

Though not $1500 - $2000, if you want the better handling it goes with the territory. The Goodyears on the 1LE are expensive low mileage tires, but are also a big part of the handling of the car. Same can be said of the ZL1's and Z/28's. TO me it is worth every penny and use them on a daily basis for what they were intended at least once. What's worth it to some is not to others. It's good we can all get what we want.

Not everyone wants to spend that kind of money though. I had to go out and get me some banged up 2010 SS wheels because I did not want to spend $2,000 on 4 new tires for my ZL1 wheels. So now my Zl1 wheels are up for the remainder of this year and I won't even bother with them until Spring time, I just hope it doesn't rain much during spring time otherwise I won't be able to enjoy it.

Wider tires? Grip, looks, etc.

315 Nitto's for my rears, 275 Wide Ovals for my fronts;

Because that is a V6 with 235, same way a base V6 Camaro has 245 squared. Jump up to performance packages on the V8 and you get 255 squared on 19x9 wheels. (2011-2014 years)

Ohh okay understood. I'm not familiar with Mustang trim levels.

Those tires are great when there is snow on the ground, all-season and skinny. The base model V8's come with skinny all-season tires as well, so they can immediately be driven in the winter.

They do look better with a 255/285 setup though when you go for looks and better handling. My Camaro V6 originally came with 245's, switched to the standard 245/275 setup and it is a lot better.

275/315 on my car. Looks stellar. If you're not autocrossing or doing track days often, wide rears are the way to go.

Quick primer for you, if it has a pony on the rear, it is a v-6 (or a Boss non Laguna Seca) GT on the rear is a GT, Snake on the rear is a GT500, map of Laguna Seca on the rear is a Boss Laguna Seca.

For one set, $2,000 for mine on the Zl1 wheels. That's from discount tire too.
