Mileage Test

So, several years ago I got my V6 and noted right away that mileage was not great. I was averaging 13 MPG. This was mostly because the engine wasn't fully broken in and because I was driving like an asshole. So fast-forward to the present - I now have a cold air intake system, have calmed down slightly behind the pedal, and see an average of 20 MPG over the life of the car.

I also have a Chevy Volt as a daily driver, and it has taught me to drive more efficiently. So the other night I decided to go for a drive from Pasadena (California) ,to Malibu Beach. I reset the odometer and tookoff, hitting only mild traffic and rarely exceeding 75 MPH. On average, I'd say I was going 65-70 MPH. Round trip was approx. 100 miles and I was really surprised at the result: 26 MPG!

I know this isn't a very exciting story, but I thought I'd share.

I'd be interested to see if anyone was able to get much better mileage...

Just for comparison, we are at 18.4 lifetime. We have seen 23/24 on some trips. Cruise set on normal roads at about 60 - 62 mph and 79 mph on interstates. Little of our driving could be considered frugal.

My best highway mileage was 27.3(V6) on Summer blend gas. Combined I avg about 20-21. I do some spirited driving at times.

The other day I filled up and reset my mileage button, left the station and drove about 2 miles (downhill)... got 38.6 MPGs. Not bad for a SS.

CAI, Kooks long tube headers, MBRP exhaust and I normally get around 21.5. But the last 2 1/2 tanks I am getting 23.7. Have been enjoying some long slow drives before winter storage.

I used to get around 24 mpg on the highway. I now get about 18 mpg on the highway an about 12 in the city.
