E85
i have a question for you e85 guys. any one having injector plugging issues? or having them regularly cleaned?
the reason i ask is im going to be wanting to run e85 in my new build but my buddy has a 1600+hp jet boat on e85 and has to regularly clean his injectors due to clogging. about every other race weekend he has to pull them and have them cleaned. im not gonna want to run e85 if that is gonna be a problem for me. i know e85 is a magnet to water and being that its a jet boat that on the water if that could be his reasoning for it or not. any input would help. will be around 900 to 1000rwhp TT build with e85.

There's a thread on TurboBuick.com that talks about e85 clogging injectors. It almost gave me the impression that the problem is regional. Some talk about adding something or other to stabilize it and prevent injector gumming(I can't find the thread ATM).
I personally have ran e85 through my Grand National's injectors for years and let them sit for months on end w/o running and never had a problem. The brand new FIC 2150's that I just put in the Camaro recommend running gasoline like every 5th tankful of e85. The FAST 95's that I just took out, ran on e85 for 2+ years w/o a problem (occasionally gas). My motor is down for right now. But on my single turbo, it seemed to love .66 lambda. When running that rich at WOT, you can pretty much watch the fuel gauge drop.

yeah i havent come across anyone here saying or complaining about them clogging. but i also will probably be running the flex sensor to be able to run gas/e85 so i could run a tank of gasoline through which i know would help clean the injector. i just dont want to jump into e85 if its a problem with injectors.

Need e85 compatible parts. Some injectors, and some fuel lines will gum up.

This was actually something I was wondering about as well as I'm going to do a flex fuel kit along with zl1 injectors, fuel pump and adm fpcm in about a month. Good to know that the injectors wont get clogged.

Then he either doesn't really have e85 parts, or is getting bad e85.

Would an Inline fuel filter help with this?

No, it is more a reaction with the parts, so if you have injectors like ID2000s that gum up because the internals are not SS, a filter doesn't help.

all of his stuff is stated to be e85 compatible and weve tested his e85 and he is been getting above e85, normally close to e90 or so. and he run stainless inline filters after pump and runs all stainless tubing for fuel.
so back to the question, if i run stuff stated for e85 it shouldnt gum up?

so after doing some research and talking to injector dynamics they referred me to this article. http://injectordynamics.com/articles/e85/
so from the article facts its the injectors that rust up with the water that gets in the e85 fuel as a result of it being hygroscopic. so its really inevitable if the car sits up for any amount of time with fuel in it.

Unless you run a SS internal injector like I said, that won't gum up. ID 1300s, ID1700s, etc.
