That's great for GM that the colorado is winning all these head to head matchups.
Just wish this wasnt the problem "$38,720 Colorado" Almost 40K for a midsize truck. |

Anyways ... pricing. Look at the Tacoma & Frontier. The Colorado pretty much matches them on equivalent trucks, so its not like GM is breaking new ground price-wise in the segment. If you don't want to pay 39 grand for a Colorado, don't tick so many option boxes. The thing starts at $21k. Yes, its a pretty basic truck at that price ... but if you want more, you have to pay more.

I really like the Colorado and Canyon but the pricing killed it for me. I don't NEED a full size and have had a Sonoma for 16 years (great truck) but after that long I was looking to replace it before this winter. I did a lot of research looking at what I might get and once I started looking at things on the dealer lots I couldn't justify buying one. For the exact same price as a mildly equipped 4cyl ext cab 4x4 I got a pretty much fully loaded double cab V8 4x4 Silverado. The discounts on the full size trucks are just insane.

I know I am in the minority there. Maybe once rebates hit the midsize trucks a little more I would change my tune. I really like the Colorado and Canyon, like I said I would have hard time paying more for a smaller less capable truck. |

That's bonkers. I can't even begin to imagine the number of man-hours put into that vehicle, and it looks amazing...

The manufacturers are free to charge whatever the market will bear but aren't pick up trucks generally cheaper to produce than cars since cars are more complex to build? I imagine trucks have a much larger profit margin.

Not really. The biggest factor is scale. The more you produce of something, the less R&D and tooling cost each individual unit will need to cover. For full size trucks, these costs get spread laughably thin.

With the move to a smaller autos in general, the GM looking pretty smart with dusting off the mid size seg offering. They probably need to go even farther and make a smaller truck..take a new road so to speak..

I think when the original Colorado came out, it smaller than this one. At the time, Ford and GM, were moving away from the smaller trucks. As we can see now that Ford stopped making the Ranger.
I personally like the smaller trucks. Less costs, overall, in the long run. I have owned 4 trucks and all of them were in the smaller class.
