It's your call, but if you have the cash for it, wait for it.... it will be worth it. Just know it will be slightly slower than the Z06, which is an amazing machine.

The 5th gen ZL1 also weighs about 200-300 lbs more than the 5th gen SS. Not sure why you'd be surprised there. It has to to support the extra power.

I guess the Question for myself is, do I want to pay 10 grand more for 1 tenth in the quarter and loose 8 mpg, in a DD....guess I'll have to wait and see how much more the ZL1 is!

I think for a daily driver I would get the SS and save the $10k or more because it could be over $10k.

Get the SS and swap the cam and port the heads on it for half the difference in price, exhaust, intake, and tune you would probably do anyway.

Would get SS, same if I went with corvette. The C7 stingray/SS seems like well balanced cars with lots of power.

I can bet that you will not lose anywhere near 8MPG from an SS to a ZL1...2 maybe 3MPG at MOST!!

The problem with adding big power is you start breaking things. And fixing those things are very expensive. You end up with a car not as good as the faster car for just as much money or more than the up model. And then your car is worth no more or even less than other used cars like yours. I have experienced this first hand. The internet modders have not.
But some understand fully what a project car entails and enjoy the fun of building the car. They want to own and drive a unique and extreme car. But going in they know they will have to spend big to build a great car. Props to them and fun to read the build. Also a supercharged V8 CA6 will not get as good mileage as a non FI Camaro and will be heavier. Count on it. I think a 2016+ Camaro with bolton mods will be an easy 11 second car. This could be a super fun car to own with plenty of thrills on the street and still get descent gas mileage for what it is.

Never seen a bone stock ZL1 run an 11.5, they usually have a hard time breaking into the 11.90's. Magazines too were all low 12's...
