My dealer was giving me crap about the same thing - didn't want to paint them, then wanted to charge (again) to install them! he hasn't received them yet, so we'll see - BTW, charging me $800!!! to paint them! Oh well...might have to leave them as they are, even though I prefer black on black...I have an IOM interior with some IOM stripes...

Michael_J I have Black w/IOM interior -- and CGM rallies. The unpainted GFX will be slightly lighter in color than my stripes, which seems like alot of different colors going on. (Main reason I wanted to paint the GFX black--plus I think the car looks more 'finished' that way). At this point I'll probably just wait to see them on the car (unpainted), then do what Hylton suggested & find a really good body shop that specializes in painting plastic. If my dealer is not confident in doing it, then I don't want him doing it, if ya know what I mean!!

The Avalanche had a rough surface, my GFX are smooth and painted (free from my dealership). Find a good body shop and get it done right. You will not be happy if you don't.

Man I would just paint them, I think they will be fine! GM just put that out because they can't warranty just any paint job that a cracker jack painter puts on em, there are good painters out there that can do it with no issues, I'm sure of it.

Get the GFX painted. There is no rough texture whatsoever, and as long as the guy installing it cleans everything correctly and uses all the rivets that come with it, there is no way that anything is falling off! Besides, it looks BAD ASS painted, but I am slightly biased

Yes, I also thought about doing that but someone said that painting them on would not come out as good, and removing and reinstalling would be an issue. Plus, I don't want too many colors with the black, IOM stripes and ION interior. They'll pain them, and if there are issues down the road, I'll just get em redone.

Thanks...

Yep, I've heard the same thing about having them painted after-the-fact...definitely not the route I want to take if at ALL possible.

But thanks to all of the great feedback from others on this thread , I just had my 3rd conversation with the body shop manager (who is actually a very nice guy, by the way). Turns out he has not actually seen or installed GFX yet, and was simply assuming the reason for the GM bulletin was due to previous issues with painting the Avalanche moldings. (He is now questioning why GM issued the bulletin in the first place!! )

He has agreed to wait until my GFX arrive at the dealership to re-evaluate whether or not they can paint them. I told him if they don't feel comfortable doing it themselves, I'll find a body shop that specializes in painting body plastic & have them do it---then bring the GFX back to the dealer for installation. Might be more of a hassle, but well worth it if it gets me what I ultimately want!!!

He probably just can't paint them for $600 anymore and still do them the way they are supposed to be prepped...
