Advantage? Well, if your wallet is heavier and thicker than you would like it to be... using 93 will help. (Figuratively speaking, of course)

I run 93 octane in my LLT. It costs usually about 35 cents more/gallon than 87, or about 15-16% more. I've found that I do get about a 14% improvement in MPG (24 avg vs 21 avg). The cost analysis would say I'm breaking even at best, or maybe even slightly behind the curve. I have to imagine that the analysis on the LFX engine would be similar.

All of that being said, I do feel that the 93 octane does give just a little bit more torque for spirited driving, probably because it is less prone to knock so I'm getting better spark timing and a more energetic fuel burn. For daily stop-and-go driving, I don't really feel any difference.

93 octane is not going to turn your V6 into an SS-killer, and it's not likely to save you any money, but (depending on your driving habits) it may help you enjoy your V6 just a little more

And I thought 93 wasn't available in CA.

Its 10¢ a gallon more, and now that I think about it, might be 91 octane...

I only see 91 in California at the pump.

Sometimes I'll put 89 in my LLT Terrain. Makes me feel good about myself

So you traded a V8 to a V6 to save $100 a month, only to spend that $100 saved on premium gas...

Yeah. None of us young kids know much of anything. I only wish that I could go back to the '60s when cars were real cars and men were real men, and I could buy pickles out of a barrel for a penny or something. Actually, no, no I don't.
