About to upgrade to a V8 not sure if I should do 1LE

Hi Guys

I really need some guidance. I have a 14 2LT and I'm thinking about upgrading to a SS. I got a great deal on a 1SS 1LE which looks absolutely beautiful!

I know Im going to spend more maintaing wise, gas and insurance, but it looks like if I go with the 1LE Im going to have the extra cost of tires over a standard 1SS/Rs Package. I have some questions though

1. Will the 1SS with NPP sound the same as a 1SS NPP 1LE?

2. Do the tires on a stock SS/RS car last longer than the SS/LE?

3. If number two above is true that the 1LE tires wear out soon could I switch to more effective tires after the first set wear out?

4. Can I just put winter tires on the current Rims?

Thanks guys.

I really loved the rides I took today and hope to be a V8 owner soon.

Get the 1LE...you'll thank me later.

Don't worry about the tires...the tread wear is based on your right foot. lol

1. Yes, it is the same motor (LS3)
2. Oh yeah. 1LE tires only last 12k miles or so, but a good set of aftermarket tires will get you 3X as much tread.
3. Don't need to answer that. Michelin PSS is the way to go.
4. If the tire fits the wheel, why not?

Go for it buddy. It's a huge difference, and you'll be super happy you got a V8.

After you upgrade to the SS don't downgrade to a V6 to save money like SSMickeyMouse did and end up having to pay more lol

Think of it this way: Ask any 1LE owner if they would have been satisfied with just a regular SS.
I'm thinking 99.9% would say no.
The 1LE has the cojones to back up its bad-ass looks.

I don't know man I got over 14k on these tires and they still look ok. I bet I can get 20k out of them.

Nutshell:

Owned 2015 2SS for 8 months. Loved it.

Owned 2015 1LE since Tuesday. I've had more fun driving it in 5 days than I did 8 months combined with the 2SS.

As always, YMMV.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. Yes
I have a 2015 1LE and it IMHO is a completely different car compared to an SS. Yeah the tires may not last as long but if your counting that as a con that is the only one against literally a mountain of pro's

Go with a 1LE you will never look back. If you like handling you won't be disappointed.

Clutch in, turn key, select appropriate gear (there is a diagram) slowly let up on clutch till you feel it catch, hold it there while slowly applying throttle, as throttle gets pressed further clutch comes up further

1. Will the 1SS with NPP sound the same as a 1SS NPP 1LE?

Yes.

2. Do the tires on a stock SS/RS car last longer than the SS/LE?

That's completely driver dependent.

3. If number two above is true that the 1LE tires wear out soon could I switch to more effective tires after the first set wear out?

Again, read above. I'll go out on a limb and assume that you'd get a 1LE for spirited driving in the turns on the street or track use other than straight line acceleration so, with that in mind, the stock tires will suffice until you really start to push the limits of the suspension. Once these tires wear out, depending on the class rules you have to deal with, there are a range of tires out there that will likely provide better grip throughout the turn. Learn the class rules and find out what limitations you have, first. If you're just getting this to drive around town in and have no intentions of using the 1LE as it was designed for, then you can continue to replace the stock tires on that car as you see fit.

One of the good things about the 1LE is its square tire setup. You can actually rotate them instead of this offset crap the rest of us have to mess with.

4. Can I just put winter tires on the current Rims?

You can do whatever you like. It would be your car, after all.

Thanks guys.

I have a different take on it than these guys. Frankly, if you're getting a 1LE "cuz the hood and stuff looks cool, bro" then I don't have anything constructive to tell you. If you're getting it to punish it's suspension, there are different subsections of this forum that may better address your concerns.

If you're getting a V8 because you want to go fast in a straight line, I'd advise you to look at the 1SS. Save yourself a few bucks and put it into go fast goodies rather than a track oriented wheel, tire, transmission, differential and suspension vehicle.
