LS3 Block casting number locations

For those of you that may know, where are the LS3 block casting or serial numbers? The reason why I ask is that I may want to install an LSX block, build the engine so I can pass California smog. I may have to go to a smog referee if the block casting/ serial numbers don't sync with the smog testing database. The LSX block supports up to 1500 horses. That way I can have an indestructible engine with forged internals. Welcome any other thoughts without the sarcasm.

Hi,

The Casting Number for a LS Series Block is located on the rear of the block just below the drive side head. (See Image) However, occasionally the cast number may be located on the Passenger Side. The last 3 or 4 digits of a head's casting number are located on the lower-right side of the head. (See Image)

Not that I know just did a search. Hope it helps.

A stock ls3 block can be forged and stroked, the thing is if you want to go performance living in California is terrible. You will not be able to smog your car and I believe it has three years after being new. Once you alter the performance your going to have to check the emissions while on the dyno, and your going to want long tube headers a no no there, your going to want just about every thing they do not permit. MY suggestion....license out of state some how or northern cal............. And just because a engine is made of iron or made of unobtanium it does not mean its indestructible, though made of iron can be cheaper, though with more features even iron blocks eclipse the price of a stock ls3 gm block. You have this for a first post, you drive a z-28 most likely a older z-28 and the smog Nazis will be all over it like white rice, not daily driver friendly at all. If you have a newer gen 5 ? If you have a DZ302 in a 69... you may have a bit of wiggle room and be able to substitute a comparable v-8, other than that they are idiots who crush cars for stupid carbon credits down there and the worst thing is they own you as commiefornia wants all your money to feed the homeless they import to vote......
