CAI question

Prices for CAI range anywhere from 300-500 dollars and the hp gains, to me, dont reflect a $200 price gap. Can anyone point me in the right direction towards a solid CAI?

Roto-Fab and New Era in my opinion are the best. I sell both to my customers. If you are interest or have more questions just PM me.

I agree. I live in Toms River, about a stone's throw away from SLP Performance, so I took a drive over there today to talk with a Tech guy. He blew my mind. He said SLP will be releasing their CAI within 3 weeks I asked the guy if it'll be a ram air set up. He told me theres no way to take advantage of a ram air set up in a 2010 Camaro. He said even if you drop it to the lower grill theres simply not enough air flow to produce noticible gains especially for the price, over a CAI that doesnt. Thats the first time I heard that, now I'm lost.

I have the LMR Cold Air intake and it rocks.

Very easy to install.

Very nice gains.

Very nice looking.

I like the Airaid Systems personally. My 2nd choice would be K&N. The important thing is make sure you get a composite intake tube; metal is no good. Please feel free to call or email us anytime!

Kind regards,

JP

I never looked at it very closely, but I remember a VW crowd who had a CHEAP solution...

They would take the stock airbox out, drill 1/2" or 3/4" holes on the bottom of the airbox, giving it a swiss cheese affect....then use a K&N filter. The gain was as good as an aftermarket CAI.

Does it make a big difference if you get one that comes with the box around the filter? I am also unsure which one I should get, I was thinking about the Hennessey CAI?

It's really hard to tell... since dyno is with hood open and stationary. I really like the Hennessey CAI and it sounds great too...

You will never see the same gains in a 5th gen Camaro, by swiss-cheesing the stock box as opposed to running a GOOD CAI kit. The good CAI kits for 5th gens will get their air from over the radiator, period. You do not want to be sucking underhood air. It will always be warmer, it will hit the IAT sensor and possibly cause reduced timing and fuel trims by the ecm. They MAY make a decent gain over the stock setup on a dyno with the hood up and a big fan in front of them, but nobody drives their car like that.

I know of a few of the kits that are out there right now and one has thrown a check engine light, which is not good. Most likely caused by a misplaced MAF sensor. This is overlooked by some of the companies. It is imperitive that it is placed properly. You simply cannot go down to your local hardware store and buy some 3" piping and whip up your own "kit" and expect it to work perfectly. Some of the companies out there seem to do this in a rush to get their pieces to the market.

Also, the comment made earlier about "must be composite", "metal is no good" is total BS. Yes, the composite will not heak soak like metal will, but when the CAI is sucking in outside air it will always be cool to the touch. The popular OTR kits will never get warm as long as the engine is running. The constant rush of outside air will overpower the transfer of engine heat to the metal tube.
