After this weekend I'll have 10 Goodyear SuperCar G:2 tires sitting in the basement, much to the chagrin of my wife

Oh and I think I can give you a run for your money on tires lol. The current count is 9 wheels and 20 tires.

Guys, it just makes sense : ) My wife is also a bit worried; she already calls my garage my crack house.

Not included in pic are my Hankook RS3ss on Apex wheels on the right side of the garage, so I also have 20 tires. I'll have to work very hard to use and get rid of them next year!

There's a track day this weekend, but the temps for the day are forecast 40/26 degrees F. After reading quite a bit about the subject, I've decided to use the MPSC2 tires for it (people seem to have used R compounds with no issues at any temp above freezing). It will take more time to warm up the tires, but MPSC2 is known to overheat anyway, so it might be OK. We'll see!

Since I've installed the tick remote bleeder and the Z/28 diff cooler, I've been hearing the transmission much like observed by this member when the engine is very cold:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=430158

I'd normally assume I do have an issue with that bearing as pointed out by the members, but another member, yenkostyle also had the exact same issue when he got Z/28 diff cooler installed, and his car was brand new when it was installed by the dealer, so I don't think his throwout bearing is gone:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...14#post8716514

I'll keep an eye on this issue. Here is hoping I indeed don't have a real problem.

I too have a track event this weekend at Circuit of the Americas (first time there). This will be the first time on NT01's and racing pads, I've been using OEM ZL1 pads which have worked surprisingly well. This track event was kind of last minute, while I would have liked to bought Cobalt pads the time isn't there. So I am going to try HAWK DTC 70 front and DTC 60 rear.

So in summary, new track, new tires, new pads and it is supposed to be in the mid 50's with a chance of rain both days. I am also bringing my Pilot Super Sports on my street wheels just in case it rains and/or is too cold for the NT01's.

My crazy brother has used NT01s whole winter on his Miata last year and survived! Granted, our winters are mild compared to snow belt states', but I was impressed by the traction at cold temps. I'm sure you'll be fine!

Regarding the trailer, it is from Top Notch Trailers in Rochester, WA. They also have a sister manufacturer in Louisiana. It cost me $3K + the wheel/tire package from TireRack. I was able to customize it to exactly what I want, like more cross members ($60), 6-lug bearings ($20), spare tire holder ($45), tilt bed dampeners ($175), hinged fender ($95), no wheels/tires (-$232), approach plates ($60), D-rings ($40) etc. It was fun!

Just came back from my craziest track day ever! Definitely one of the scariest ones I've been to. 31-34 degrees F, FOG !!!!

  • I only did one session. A car got wrecked next session, and it was getting ever more foggy, so it ended up being one of my shortest track days, too.
  • It took 15-20 minutes just to warm the tires up to temp. I was able to get the tires to 33 PSI from 26 PSI. Michelin recommends 24-26 PSI cold and 33-36 PSI hot.
  • When they finally got up to temp, the tires held up well. Coolant temps stayed very low. Oil temps got to 250s degrees F max.
  • Well, the season is officially over. I'll put on the street tires shortly :(

In my 18+ years on track I have never seen fog like that while on track. We have had snow flurries and downpours....but not fog.

For me, it's been very cold outside since install, so I'm yet to really give it a shot, but so far so good. At the track it behaved pretty good, but at 3x degrees F and heavy fog, I could not push it nearly enough. It will all get pretty clear once I get to find a track day at 50+ degrees F weather. Dropspeed's vote of confidence is very encouraging!

As a reminder, my stock diff was toast when I installed it......But, still very happy with the results. I am able to roll onto the throttle earlier in the corner. The car appears to rotate easier and puts the power down.

I'm cheap; I just used Velcro. I leave the felt-side on the car, so it's at least soft to the touch. I do have a spare phone case with the other end of velcro on its back, and use that case during the track days.

Torsen diffs sometimes have tendency to promote understeer, especially during turn-in. They're also obviously not good for too stiff suspension setup on jittery surfaces (since they unlock when a wheel is in the air), which is thankfully not the case with the Z/28 shocks. They are good at putting the power down, though.

I'm sure some people are very good at detecting subtle differences in handling (no pun to you, me or anyone I know), but I just can't differentiate when so many variables are at play (like weather, etc.). In other words, I need good track conditions to do best-effort laps, so I can really compare the behavior. I have to say, though, it was good at the track. I did not feel anything wrong with the set-up to say the least, except the fact that I was not able to see what was ahead
