I saw one a couple monthes back at a 7-11. Most of the owners must be drinking the stupid juice because the guy told me it would beat a ZR1 stock. I happened to be in my girlfriends escape instead of my SS, I was pissed.

Nice story. I hate people that act like jerks because they have sweet cars.

THANK YOU!

and Cliffy, if anything the Cobalt Rear looks like a GT-R.... the Skyline has had that taillight set up since the late 80's, early 90's..... before the 'balt even existed.

Pretty sure if anything it was an homage to the Corvette. But the double rounds are pretty traditional on a lot of cars.

Oh, I know. I just didn't want him thinking the GT-R's rear was a rip of the 'balt.

Vette's have had double rounds.....forever? Yeah, that's about right.

My buddie has a GT-S trubo, which wich will gladly enjoy the backside of my car should we ever meet on the blacktop. Its funny because I have been into cars for a long time started with a civic, moved to CELICA, TO A 350Z(it was awesome) to a bike then to a truck now the Camaro. There is always this somewhat mandatory rivalry between imports and domestics and camaro and mustang, i myself try to be polite to any CAR that i think deserves it.

I don't think he ever said it was a rip off, just that it looked like it.

Depends on the drivers because a few tenths of a second difference is nothing. Not just any average Joe can climb into a 600hp/595tq RWD and launch it to a 3 second 0-60. Probably 90% of the people who think they can will spin the tires or stall the thing altogether. A clutchless AWD on the other hand is pretty dummy proof to launch. I will give the advantage to the GT-R to win that race 9 times out of 10 unless you have a stellar driver in the ZR1

Launching the 2009 Nissan GT-R is a no-brainer thanks to its electronic launch control system. Set the switches to their appropriate positions, hold the brake, let the engine speed come up and let it rip. After a few consistent runs, our best time from zero to 60 mph is 3.8 seconds (3.5 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip). The quarter-mile goes by in 11.8 seconds at 118.6 mph. These are mighty respectable numbers for an $80K street car, and more important they're numbers that are easily repeatable.

With the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, it's a whole different story. This Corvette might have huge 335/25R20 tires in back, but since they can't even maintain grip when you put your foot down at highway speeds, you can probably imagine what happens when we try to nail it from a standstill.

We try every method possible to get the car out of the hole quickly — slipping the clutch, modulating the throttle and various combinations of both. The result is a best 0-60-mph time of 3.8 seconds (3.5 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip) and a quarter-mile time of 11.5 seconds at 128.3 mph.

The acceleration numbers of the Nissan GT-R and the Corvette ZR1 might look close, but the ZR1's trap speed says it all, because it's pulling away fast at the end of the run. An impromptu drag race between the two cars shows that although the GT-R can keep up with the Corvette up to around 100 mph, it's all over from there on out.
You see there really isn't much of a comparision. On top of that launch control comes standard on the 2010 ZR1 and voids your warranty if used on the GTR. Z06 vs. GTR is close, ZR1 vs. GTR is not.

Our Z06 tester has a more cooperative shift linkage than the last one we tested, and after its P325/30ZR19 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar run-flat rear meats hook up, it shaves several tenths off its 0-60-mph time with a run in 3.9 seconds (or 3.6 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a dragstrip). It then blazes through the quarter-mile in 11.7 seconds at 123.2 mph.
I know you are talking about average Joe's so now any average Joe can turn on Competative mode in either the ZR1 or Z06, mash the throttle and dump the clutch.

Again, 11.8 vs 11.5 is nothing. Thats 3 tenths of a second. Thats assuming the ZR1 gets a clean launch. Any tire spin or wheel hop at all and that 3 tenths of a second is gone and the GTR wins rather easy.

sweet! A Z06 and a ZR1 in the same stable. I'll settle for just the Z06. A year ago, at a car show, a guy wanted to straight-up trade his 2007 Z06 for my FFR.....I should have done it. :(
