Side Note: I went through your town on the way to Utica last July (taking the scenic route from Binghamton). Had to stop and visit the beautiful falls that I used to visit when I live up that way (many years ago).

Yah that falls is great and well known. And it is only one of few places in the USA where the water runs North.
If I get a chance this winter I'll send you a pic of it frozen over. And in the winter they throw colored water over the falls.

Good bang for the buck, definitely feel the difference. Now I am adding solo hi flow cars to finish improving the flow!

This is a newbie question, but isn't the stock air box technically a cold air intake?

Yes, but it comes with air restriction baffles. Aftermarket CAIs have no restrictions.

Yes it is. But the aftermarket ones are not as restricted in letting the cold air thru. The more cold air you can get thru there to the intake will keep the engine cooler. Thus letting the engine run smoother.

Anyone think I'm not right on all this please step in here.

It seems like a better name would be "high flow intake" since that's a better description of what distinguishes from the stock air box. Oh well, it's not like any of us can change it; the name has stuck.

The CAI was my first mod, but I really did not notice anything on the butt dyno. I do think the exhaust had a little more growl to it.

For me, no difference in the feel, a little better sound. About a month later I added the solo high flow cats and together that made a big improvement. I think, as others have said, it is the combination of "air in, air out.."

I have another newbie question. Is it true that cold air intakes do not really improve performance except at wide open throttle; the logic being that the throttle plate is still a restriction except when it's fully open? Your thoughts?

Performance is improved by adding a CAI, although, it's minimal as compared to adding headers. The factory air intake has air restricting baffles, aftermarket CAI do not. So there is improvement in performance through all RPM's, not just at WOT! By your logic the throttle plate would have to be removed to allow full performance through all RPM's?? Which would make your car run like shit!
