You're fine, OP. Don't worry about others. If someone were to be serious in ragging you over your cylinder count, walk away knowing they're likely absolute trash of human beings. That's correct 100% of the time and there's a handful of them on this site, unfortunately. They know who they are.

No shame.
Back in '87 I was over at Oste Chevrolet new car shopping with about $6500 burning a hole in my pocket. I bought the only new American vehicle I could afford, a stripped out vinyl seat stick shift 4 banger S10 pickup. But for about $13K they had a sparkling blue '87 Camaro RS. T-tops and a 2.8 v6 (it might have been the 3.1) with about 125hp. Anyway, I lusted after that Camaro like you wouldn't believe. 125hp and I would have felt like a million bucks driving out in that thing, but I just couldn't swing it. So no, no shame in driving a gorgeous 323 hp sports car. |

My son...who is 27 asks why I bought a V6 ...why not a V8. I'm 56 years old....I DIDN'T buy it to race....getting a convertible was my priority. NOT ashamed of my 2LT/RS V6. And every single day at least 1 person sees me park...getting out of it and compliments my BEAUTIFUL car. And yes....note the Mustang in background....that's MINE too!!!!!

I mean, if you CAN buy a V8 then I'll always say to get the V8. But if not then theres nothing wrong with the V6. As long as you're happy with it that's what matters most.

I say no you shouldn't be ashamed of the v6. I have the v6, if I could have afforded the v8 when I bought it, I would have. But it could be worse, you could drive a Prius.....

Your car should be for you, not to be validated by other peoples opinions of you.
If it were a Prius I'm sure you'd be proud of it's economical value. If it were a van I'm sure you'd need the space. If you have a V6 Camaro then it makes sense to me that you have your reasons, and shouldn't have to justify them to others just because your car is pretty. For me, I don't need a V8. I wouldn't get anything out of it besides bragging rights. I like the look of this current generation of Camaro's and have no bias towards Chevy or any other manufacturer. Since the V6 and V8 look almost identical (and I can change the looks of a V6 to easily match a V8, and have), I may as well save myself the ~$10k difference in cost since performance isn't why I wanted a Camaro. What's important to you about the car? Do you like all of the creature comforts that a higher trim level provides? Do you like the cosmetic differences that the RS package provides? Do you want to maximize performance? Can you be comfortably within your budget for the duration of your loan term? Is it's performance on the track important to you? All of these are questions that only you can answer for yourself, and nobody in the world, no matter how well informed they may be or how nice their own car is, can tell you that what works for them should also work for you.

You should be proud that you have a camaro. Period. Anybody that says different has other issues.
It's like motorcycles, I don't care what you ride as long as it has two wheels. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk

I used to have an '85...if you are to look at the numbers, the current V6 is close to your dads 86 in terms of torque and the V6 has more horsepower. I purchased a V6 both from a running cost and the fact where I live the traffic is brutal and you can only go so fast anyway...I do not go to the track, nor will I ever, so that being said the V6 was ample for me. I'd say who cares what everyone else thinks....it is what you enjoy and can afford that matters. Keep your car spic and span and enjoy it!! |

IMO why pay more for electronic do-dads the don't make the car faster and will be dated in 10 years? But choice is what makes America great.
