Ran my 14 1LE with deletes for a while. Loved the sound and had no issues with drone.

All the best,

I think some people mistake drone for sound. How do you want a loud exhaust but don't wanna hear it on the inside?

I would define drone as a “secondary” sound that appears to be generated by the pipes resonating, rather than the sound produced by combustion. Kinda like “bees in a can” but lower frequency and more uniform. Is that what we are talking about?

Some people call it drone. I prefer the term resonance, because that is what it is. It's the sound wave frequency from the exhaust harmonizing in a way that creates vibration in other parts of the car. When I did a muffler delete on a older Corvette ('96) I got it when lower gears starting from a stop. My fix was a resonated x-pipe from Magnaflow.

Exactly, drone is resonance.

Hearing the tone in the cabin is one thing but the resonance, or drone as I call it, is another thing. I had bad drone when the rpm's were around 1900 to 2000 rpm which was mainly cruising speed on the highway in 5th or 6th. Because of that I was always trying to stay out of that range and it just got annoying to me.

After about a year of running a muffler delete I started looking for another set up and to be honest most header back systems out there with or without cats sound better than a muffler delete imo.

I had Solo Cats and did the delete and it sounded like an old Hoopty that needed exhaust repair. Loud BUT unrefined.
I did the Stainless Power LTs with the RetroChambered CatBack and now it sounds a Lot better.----IMO anyway

I love mine, on startup when its cold its "loud" but when its warm, really sounds no different than normal. At speed with the windows up the cabin is quiet enough to hold a conversation, at WOT you know its coming.

Hoping to get LT soon, may be a bit too loud then, but Im willing to find out.. .

This is startup and a couple of rev's while warm.

What I want to figure out is exactly how loud will it make my car during normal street driving? Will I be able to carry a conversation while going 80mph? Will it drone at highway speeds? Will I attract cops from a mile away accelerating of the traffic light with normal traffic flow? In comparison to a typical aftermarket cat-back setup, is it much louder, just as loud, not as loud?

I don't mind it being loud at WOT, but it should not be annoying or tiring during normal driving. It's my daily driver an I put on 15k miles per year.

Again, its an LS3 base exhaust, and I have an CAI intake.

Thanks in advance!
I have this exact setup. 2014 LS3 was all stock, i put a CAI intake on it an did a muffler delete. i like the sound alot better an it isnt too loud, there is a little more drone than stock but not too much and i cruise at 80 most of the time an you can talk to someone in the car or on the phone fine. i wana get shorty headers an high flow cats eventually but i think il have to get some kind of muffler when i put those on cause it would be too loud with headers HFs an nothing after that. im in cali i cant have police wondering about my car everytime i pass them. but even with just a muffler delete when i start it up people think i have "hot rodded" the car or have some fat exhaust system when its just stock pipes with no mufflers so overall i think youl like it. a little more decel pops than id like but you can kick in the clutch or neutral it an eliminate that

Thanks for for the information everyone. I wonder if the drone depends on how exactly the straight pipes were installed. Ex, the type of steel used, how thick the walls are, which tips were welded on, or how the pipes are joined.

I did the delete this past season on my LS3. But I went the Solo J-pipe route cuz it's all stainless and wanted to make sure there was no drone at all for the wife and kids. I can attest that it has zero drone. In-fact, I had more drone in the cabin before the delete. I love the sound for the price but it certainly sounds more like "raw power" when you get on it and not as refined as having aftermarket muffs on.

Normal driving, I can hardly tell the difference from stock. I wish it was louder on take -off. But when you get on it, it really wakes up and has an awesome RAW sound.

I would hack them off myself I I were you. So it will cost zero dollars. Then see if you like it. If not, then you can add aftermarket parts. If you do like it, you can then order the Solo piping with J-pipe or just have a shop extend the pipe/tips.

I did it on my L99 (Stainless works without the jpipes) -- DRONE city -- had to add JPipes from Solo -- they were adjustable and help a bunch -- but LOUD exhaust for sure!
