That sucks. FYI I have noticed my PSI is up about 5-10 LBS since the oil pump change. Use to be it might be at 35 when the oil was hot and 3K RPM now it is up around 45-50 at 3K RPM.

Weird. Maybe it's a higher pressure pump?

That's a good question. Makes ya wonder if the service manager just thought tof throw a melling or something in.

I'd put some BR 30 in it and run that about 100 miles or so, then use LS 30 on that new engine, but that is me.... ;o)

Can't wait to see how it comes out...

It sounds like GM has a real problem getting their engine blocks cleared of manufacturing debris. The statement was the pump design is fine, on some engines that had debris in then they will finally build up after getting stuck in the relief valve and it will fail. Hope fully all engine debris are now gone and the second pump should not fail.

NOW go read about LT1 and LT4 failures which there have been many and GM has said they have had problems getting the blocks clean and debris are clogging the oil pumps and oil filters. Some reviewers Z06's even had major motor damage from this.

Granted car is under warranty and being fixed but sure the heck does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Has to make you wonder why GM dropped the drivetrain warranty from 100K to 60K miles.

Just search and you will find issues that are a little nerve racking even on a new motor.

I am still really considering one of these:
Scott, becareful though. I too have been thinking about trading but when the owners of the other brands told me of their issues I was like whooa. It might be one of those out of the frying pan into the fire events. I had my #6 lifter stuck and had a cam upgraded and a different oil pump installed. Now with over 100,000 miles on my 2012 LS3 I have to say the good out came the bad for me. Maybe I was fortunate somewhat but be advised even those other cars can't handle the hp and tq our cars can without major upgrade that would be more than the price of a new engine for our cars. I have 2 friends that had a few events of blown STI motors in the past 2 years, one is now breaking in his newly installed forged motor. In my eyes though Mustangs GTs and Vipers seem to be more reliable than these offerings.

Well we will see if anything else happens by Oct 2017. That is when my drivetrain is up. By design of the car the oil goes into the pickup then into the pump then into the oil filter. GM is saying the old pump had metal in the valve from the original engine build and the valve finally gave out because of it. Since filter and pan was clean maybe the world is fine now.

We will see.

Very interesting thread! I'm having oil consumption issues with my '13 SS with under 20k miles and since my factory warranty will end in about 4 months, I might need to look for extended warranty. Where did you guys get your ext warranties from, directly from GM/Dealer/Bank?

Oil consumption I would think would be different. Still not normal or realistic on a 2-3 year old car with 20k miles.. that being said, I'd really want GM to step up and do an actual recall on this issue so we can all get this fixed before being stranded.

Well leaving Walmart last night my check engine light comes on and I then notice the oil pressure gauge is reading 0!!! Pull over check for leaks and oil level, no leaks but oil seems a little low but its not so low that the gauge reads 0. Checked the codes this morning P0523 engine oil pressure sensor/ switch high. The oil light never came on. So I had her towed home and will be towing to the dealership Monday morning. Lucky no engine noise. Oh yeah my baby has 107000 miles on her and shes my daily driver so nothing is going to be under warranty.
