Clean Side Separator -Weird

All,

Yesterday, I got an aftermarket clean-side separator via a group buy. I was expecting RX, but I got an Elite. A quick internet search reveals the "styles" of these separators vary even within the same brand, and the one I got could just as easily been RX or Elite based on its shape, but this one was branded with the Elite sticker.

Anyway, one thing concerns me -- the top is held to the bottom solely by the friction of two rubber gaskets and a little grease. The bottom screws into the crankcase (like a normal oil cap), and the rest of the unit simply slides into the bottom with only a moderate amount of force needed. My concern is that crankcase pressure will make it pop out while driving. See these pics:

For you guys with the aftermarket separators, is this how yours works? Should I be worried about the ease in which the top comes off the bottom?

I don't think you've got an Elite can. It looks NOTHING like my Elite. Maybe they've made a new model, but I doubt it. I have no pics at the moment, but my Elite is completely separate from the valve cover and oil cap. You mention "clean side separator", so maybe that's something completely different from a "regular" catch can. One way to find out if it will pop out is to install it and run it.

It's completely different.

Looks like my RX as well. Run it and see if you have a problem though I doubt you will. They have been around for awhile and not heard of anyone pushing one out. yours looks and mounts exactly like the one I have though I am not running it currently since the new valve covers I bought have a different oil fill hole.

Here's a good picture of the Elite Clean Separator

Thanks, guys.

I have been going back and forth with RX. It is an Elite and looks like the pic above except for color.

Apparently, there have been some fraudulent Rx replicas out there, and the RX folks have stopped selling the genuine item pending the legal battle. In the meantime, they are selling Elites. The color matched part is not normative, but something I got via special request with the group buy.

As for my original concern, they assured me that all Elites are as mine is, and none have had a problem with the top coming off. It is designed to have the bottom part screw in to the crankcase, with the top coming on and off easier when adding oil.
