v6 engine loud at first start

Hi all,
I am new to this forum I just bought a used 2013 1LT (M6) two weeks ago, love it but when first starting it the engine sounds loud but after 30 seconds it normally goes from about 1200 rpms down to 500 rpms and quiets down. What I need to know is this indicative of the V6 to be so loud (and vibrates) at start-up. Once she is warmed up she sounds normal, my concern is the vibration at startup. Is this typical of this engine.

It does that to warm up the catalytic converters.

Does the 2013 you bought happen to already have an aftermarket muffler kit installed?

Why it sound loud at cold start and if you attempt after warm up to hold the RPM up to were it goes at cold start the sound is not the same. I have a 2015 V6 Does by any chance the pipe has a flap like the double exhaust?

The cold start is to warm up the cats. It is a very lean setting to build heat quick. Do not touch the throttle during this process. If you do you stop the process and throw the computer in to a limp mode like state for a little while until it figures out what's going on. The reason the 1200-1500 rpm you hear during the cold start sounds different than when you throttle it up to the same rpm is because of the lean fuel trim. No flap.

Definitely! I got my 2015 1LS as a certified used car, and found out that it's got Flowmaster 409s installed, and man that thing sounds mean during a cold start.

Thank you for the quick response. I'm a newbie with Camaro V6. I'm trying to get a better sound but investing little by little. You know how it goes with you still have small kids. So far I have received suggestions like a X-pipe and 2 magnaflow bullet mufflers. I may start with the X-pipe first with stock mufflers and eventually the mufflers.

Thanks again.
