I did not purchase it, it came with the car, the original owner contracted it.

However you might want to look into this: https://www.onstar.com/us/en/help-su...n/details.html

If your 1100 mile car came with warranty transferred to your and so forth, you might be able to get the "basic" free plan for the remainder of the 3 year warranty. Or at least, that is the way I see it. Personally, I have not called yet about this - waiting until after the holiday to do it.

You mentioned XM radio: that is one I will be getting. I have a small XM radio receiver at work that I listen to all the time through headphones. I really like their service. When I got the "free" 3 month trial, it came with the extras such as the weather/movie/fuel plan as well as the full blown XM plan including the iPhone app streaming service.

When I renew the service for good on my Camaro, I plan to get the "basic" music service - that is all I want. So far I have found the "weather" thing to be a pain and I could care less about movies/fuel. If you do any traveling though XM is really nice.
Thanks Red Rock 2SS/RS, I will check it up to see if its free and transferable.

Sounds good to me, just will enjoy the XM and its additional features until it expires.

I have never had a vehicle with Onstar service before. I bought the car used with around only 1100 miles.
Do you think that maybe because the car was registered with Onstar under a previous owner was the reason that the person from Onstar did not gave me a good customer service or is just that Onstar is that way and not worth it?
I'm guessing the reason she couldn't help is because it was 11:00 at night. Not every OnStar employee can be trained to be a tech. I find that it is worth it just for the Nav alone. You don't have to stop to put in the address of were you want to go, just tell them while you are driving.

I'm against onstar, or the defunct soviet satellite systems. They have close ties the the government, insurance companies and anyone else who waves a dollar bill in there face for information and monitoring of us.

Ah, understand. Press the blue Onstar button on your mirror and ask the representative which plan and features are active on your car.

I have it but only use it for the insurance discount. But I haven't seen the discount yet from State Farm.

It worth it. I've used it to help a few crash victims and it gives me and my family peace of mind that if I'm misbehaving on some back road and get into an accident, that onstar will automatically send help. The onstar coverage is surprisingly better then my cellphone coverage. My wife being able to use the app to find me whenever she wants always makes her feel better too.

Navigation service isn't worth it though. I just do directed address with my nav and it works great.

Thanks, that makes more sense. I was having a hard time understanding how voice navigation was worth $180/year over my dash nav or siri.

I assume the coverage is better because it relies on sattelites instead of cell towers.

OnStar's gps is satellite but the contact with the advisor is via cell phone. The coverage is better because it has a more powerful transmitter than a regular cell phone (3 watts I think).

Also with the OnStar gps they track you. I got lost one time and called OnStar and said I made a wrong turn awhile back. The advisor was able to tell me every prior turn I made after leaving home.
