Cold air intakes do nothing when they don't isolate the filter from hot engine bay air. Most junk out there doesn't even do that. Even if a hot air intake brings in more air, it doesn't mean it's beneficial without bringing in COLD(er) air

Guess we need to call GM and tell them that the stock CAI on the Z28 is useless.

Stock z28 CAI looks great, especially for a stock piece.

I think he was referencing (in jest) the posts talking about how CAIs are useless.

Well I am not sure how you dug up that :

"This results in inflated hp numbers that are to the crank, and do not represent real world performance gains"

But hey Its how it was in the context of what they are referring to....

There is a thread called the "air intake thread" that's on a sticky some where with dyno comparisons on the different brands on a v-8. Now if you do not gain a appreciable amount with a v-6 for comparison to the v-8 being around 15 h.p. to the wheels, do not get a better sounding engine, well..... The intake you should buy is attached to a new SS.... And includes the car.

Better breathing is good for a engine, better air in and better exhaust out as its basically a Air pump... Your driving a v-6 and wishing for more performance and just have to live with limited expectations I am afraid and should use whatever your comfortable with as the gains will be less for a v-6. You do have to research things, that the way it goes, otherwise your just buying stuff , I get it , I do it all the time.

I just do not get where you pick through and dig out some out of context statement referring most likely to others products inflated claims or monkeys flying out a butt?. As CAI is a good intake, how much you will benefit from any intake is the question to compare to stock. Maybe there is some v-6 thread with intake figures.

But you kind of left yourself open to shamans and Jethro giving you their opinion, and you did not include what ever the context was of the statement you pasted, and how much more your engine would benefit from air flow...? You want to pick one, pick one for price and convenience and do not expect miracles from a filter box especially if your engine does not really need more than the stock flow and is not modified. And I would think the statement would refer to manufacturers posting at the crank figures for gain to a cold air induction from a engine stand dyno.... not a real chassis dyno way different animals.......
