I just put up some swim noodles on my garage walls. They do the trick!

That's awesome, it looks a bit harder than I want..tho I know it's better than hitting wood. I think a noodle would work a bit better since it gives more...

I tend to agree but the padding he used is probably soft enough to cushion the impact but not too soft that it will fully collapse. Me likey. He can always zip tie a noodle to it.
