I worked hard all my life put my wife and kids first and me second ,my 2013 1le is the first sports car I owned and it's very hard for me to part with it and I am fortunate enough to afford any car at any price even the Italian ones that end vowels , but at the end of the day I'm a practical guy that loves driving my practical 1le !

I plan on adding the GMPP heads and the LS9 cam with the GM recalibration to 7100 rpm redline in the Spring. I hope to make an HPD event during the year to get to experience the full potential of this car. I've already added the Quantum brake kit, Goodridge SS brake lines, separated the brake and clutch reservoirs, HP+ brake pads on tap to install. Needless to say I love my car and so far in the past year, it's become my DD. With the mild winter we've had so far up here in the Northeast, it will continue to do so...except for snowy days

Mods are the best option when you start looking at other new cool rides. Did full bolt-ons at 1500 miles and was super pleased with my 1LE. A year later I started looking a little at the 2016 SS's and the 15 Z28. The Z28 has always been my "dream" car, just out of my budget. And even though I was not too crazy about the 2016 SS's looks, I was impressed with it's performance.
So about 2 months ago, basically at 9000 miles, came a nice cam install, UDP, and nice fat Michelin Pilot Supersports. Now 16 SS isn't even in the running. And I feel just as happy with my car now as I would be with a new stock Z28. I've raced modded ZL1's and modded C7 vettes and have held my own. 496whp NA in a 1LE, espcially now that I can hook up thanks to the PSS's, really makes things interesting and impressive. I know there will always be faster cars out there and I know a heavily modded Z28, ZL1, or C7 will take me. But for the appx $40k total I have invested in my 1LE, it's pretty dang hard to beat for overall looks and performance.

I am around amazing cars at GM all the time, surrounded by 6gen in the garages now. What an amazing car and if I didnt have my 1le i would buy one instantly. However, I LOVE my blacked out 13 1LE, it is all I want in my toy car. Is it the best camaro? No but for me its perfect. Just like e30s M3s re 50k now but back then they were 200hp boxes the 1LE to me is such a special car that no matter if its fastest etc it is plain amazing to drive. An ACR viper runs 1:22 laptimes at the local track, the new monster one, I run 1:28s on stock tires, suspension and stock ls3 with maybe 100lbs removed. Damn, thats not bad at all, I dont need faster than that to keep me going but I am modding slowly since its affordable.
I dono, the 1LE to me is an icon, ask Randy Pobst what he thinks of it and you will know what you got. This guy drives the best cars in the world and cant stop talking about a 1LE because he is right that its sick...price and everything aside. In the end though, if you are thinking that much about other cars something is missing for you. A test drive will tell you, go try a 6th gen. Either way you will be stuck with a sick car. Shelby 350?!? Wake up, whats wrong with you, dont buy the hype (in the R you can..... a lil).

Could be worse, you could have done it two more times.
I look at cars a bit differently than some folks I suppose. I buy them with an eye toward making them more what I want out of them, as a primary consideration. That's most of the reason I bought my Camaro. Good base platform for something I'll be happy tinkering with and modifying as I go along for many, many, years. One of the things I've been fortunate enough to learn, early, is that no matter how good I am at any given thing, there will always be someone better at it that shows up sooner or later. The same is even more applicable to cars. Give it a year or three, and no matter how high end a vehicle you start with, there will be something faster, better handling, or in some other way "better" than your car. Unless you're fairly wealthy, there's not really an option other than to find some way to be content within that set of conditions. For me, it's making whatever I'm currently driving as good as I possibly can. If I'd spent a week or two more researching before I purchased, I would have started with a 1LE, rather than an SS, as it's a better starting point for my end goals with this car. So, ultimately, my thoughts are, do whatever makes you happy. If the 1LE doesn't do it for you, then like Mgizzle, I suggest test drives in the cars you think might. If they're not quite as good as you imagined them to be from reading the reviews on them, then modding what you've got might be a really good option, and more economical as you go forward. If nothing else, the test drives might give you an idea of what areas to tweak in your 1LE. |
