Mysterious Hose Question

Last month I had a maggie installed and tuned by a reputable shop. While washing my car a couple of days later, I saw a hose (see pictures below) that was just sitting loose by my cog pulleys. I had also been getting CEL and service stabilitrak messages. Checked code and got P0308 (Cylinder 8 Misfire), however I did not notice any difference in how the car idled or drove.

I emailed the shop and inquired about the hose and they told me this was an old vacuum hose for #8 and it was supposed to be capped and tucked away. So I capped the hose the best I could (fold and ziptied shut), cleared the code and it did not come back. Fast forward a couple of weeks, while sitting at a stop light I get the CEL and service stabilitrak message again. Same CEL code, clear it and it does not come back. I also got the same messages a couple of days ago, while sitting in a fast food parking lot (only get these messages when sitting still).

I want to know if this hose is supposed to be hooked up to something or if there is a more serious problem. I should mention I have already checked my spark plug connections and they are all secure.

Pulling the fuse doesn't change the fact that is the vacuum line to run the mufflers.

Ok, so if that hose is for the NPP where should it be hooked up to? I have looked at everything and I can not see where this hose should be connected to.. Unless it's behind my blower.

If you pulled the fuse then it doesnt need to be hooked up

Agreed, doesnt need to be hooked up. Factory it goes to back of intake manifold. On a blower setup, would have to follow the blower instructions.

Ok, so the hose does not need to be connected. Any idea what would be the cause for the #8 misfire code?

Google is your friend.

Google "22786749" and you'll find this amongst the results: http://www.wholesalegmpartsonline.co.../22786749.html (Vacuum control system for NPP exhaust.)

Since it's a vacuum line, it may not need to be 'hooked up' to its original component, but it still needs to be plugged or capped, as it's still causing a vacuum leak when disconnected.

Also, fom elsewhere:

A random misfire code usually means the air/fuel mixture is running lean. But the cause might be anything from a hard-to-find vacuum leak to dirty fuel injectors, low fuel pressure, a weak ignition coil, bad plug wires, or compression problems. Even a dirty MAF sensor can cause a lean code and/or misfire to occur.

It isn't causing a vacuum leak from the muffers. It is only a leak if what it was suppose to be hooked to isn't plugged or capped.

Plugs, wires, injectors, or motor damage.

Huh? If it's a vacuum line, then it's intended to be connected to the engine in order to create vacuum. If one end is unplugged, then the engine will be sucking in unmetered air, causing a vacuum leak.

It's not an exhaust hose, it's an exhaust system control valve vacuum hose.
