My wife always says, "That's a reasonable price for a piece of metal that looks just like the piece of metal you already have. Would you like a bj before you spend the whole weekend working on your Z28? Don't worry, I'll keep the kids out of your hair."

Then I wake up.

I've been married 8.5 years. My wife buys clothes, purses and shoes...I buy cars, motorcycles and parts for my cars and motorcycles. Nobody complains about a thing. A marriage is a democracy, not a dictatorship. If you both have good jobs and are in a strong financial position, what is there to bitch about?

Amen DRKS1D3! 7.5 years here, we have a similar setup and are still going strong.

The thing I've found most effective is to have a healthy relationship when talking about money. I fought to add a line item for Camaro parts in the budget that won't make me wait until I'm 50 for my first mod. Additionally, we both agree that our end of year bonuses are for what either of us want. However, we are also adult enough to know that if something needs saved for then the majority of the bonus will go for something like that.

Wife didn't say anything when we dated. Now married I at least give her a heads up. Don't have to ask permission but it's def better to let her know. Especially since she works from home and knows when UPS shows up.

Great response. I've pulled this a few times.

We've been together about 16 years and I agree with you. We are at the same stage in life for the most part. But I do "fudge" a bit on the Camaro mod parts budget. lol

I've played this card a few times myself over the years.

lol, true. I've become a UPS and USPS expert with logins to track my shipments. When all else fails I just send the packages to my friends house.

Been married for 35 years; wife knew my hobbies were cars/bikes before we got married. She has never asked or questioned how much any of my 'mods' cost and knows I will only buy/do what we can afford
