ZL1 tire alternatives

While researching tires, I came across an article from a while back that had stated that GM was holding back delivery of ZL1s and 1lEs due to the Goodyear Supercar tires potential unsafe performance in cold weather. I am experiencing this first hand. Talk about traction issues. They are like Power Wheels tires when it's cold. Does anyone know of alternative tires that still have a Y rating?

I think that you need to check this one on the ZL1 wheels/tires sub forum section. Yes the GY below 40 F and worst of all on presence of water they are not going to be the best option, since they are summer tires. Your best option is to replace them with Michelin Super Sport, but the rears will be wider than your stocks (315's) or better yet to get all season tires like the BFGoodrich G-Force Comp-2 A/S, but it will have a lower speed rating. Any way I don't think that you will be driving on top of the allowed speed rating of those tires. Best of luck with your search not to many options on our tires sizes (specially the rear ones) and forget about the Pirellis they are trash compared to the MPSS, I already had both tires on a prior Muscle car to be able to compare them.

Really happy with correct sized BFGoodrich G-FORCE COMP-2 A/S's. Speed rating = W (you really going over 168 mph?)

Getting the BFG's as soon as i pay off Christmas lolol.. I like a car I can use when I want. I'll never go over 168mph anywhere so no problem there. Actually looking to trade or buy a set of the polished wheels instead of the black ones on my 357 mile car. That way I can sell them as a set wheels with almost brand new tires.

Tried to get BFG, but couldn't find any rear tires. Everyone was sold out and one source said BFG discontinued the 305 in 20" already.

That's what I have, in ZL1 sizes. Glad I bought when I did. Wonder why the rears were discontinued? Hope that doesn't mean they are unsafe! I just checked tire rack where I got mine, they are showing special order. Nothing about being discontinued.

Sam's Club tire manager told me when he called MichelinBIB, they said they were being discontinued. Tire Rack sold their last set an hour before I called lol. I couldn't wait for them because I had a damaged sidewall on my GY's so that's why I settled for Nitto. But I'm very impressed by the Nitto. I still pull 1.03 Gs, but it's on the ragged edge when I did it (I could feel tires loosing traction). We'll see how they hold up on mileage. Seem to ride smoother than GY too.
