Speakers suck. Replacements???

Loving my z28 but the speakers are horrible, mid range honk. Can't eq it out. Just sounds bad.

Has anyone tried replacing them?

I'd really like some good audio once in a while.

Check out Hertz Audio. Incredible sound, from stock replacement to full blown build with amps, subs and dsp.

Had them in 3 cars so far and they will be in the SS when get gets fast enough... If that ever happens

I've used focal elite series along with JL audio speakers. Both are top notch without a doubt giving the edge to the focal after many hours of comparing them from one ZL1 to the other ZL1. I have the JL speakers in one car and the focals in the other, both being driven by a Alpine PDX-F6 amp. I am not discrediting PostNup evaluation on the Hertz Audio at all, I just have no experience with them. At one point I did give the edge to the JL Audio speakers but realized that I was missing one item trying to do a apple to apple comparison which was rca cables, I was using the Stinger 9000 rca's in the JL car and monster rca's in the focal car which had a problem. Once I installed the Stinger 9000 cable in the focal car the highs and clarity really came alive with the focals, giving them the clear edge.

I don't know about that, the two speakers in the back called mufflers sound pretty darned good to me!!

Seriously though, I hear what you are saying.

Thanks for the suggestions I'll look at them. I was thinking of a simple speaker swap and not a whole new system. The factory speakers are just bad. I've been driving to Salem the last two weeks and discovered how much I can't stand them. Normal fun z28 driving and I could care less.

Anyone know what size the speakers are?

I just picked up some alpine front door speakers. $60 from amazon. Hoping to put them in tomorrow. Let you know how they work out, i just want a little better sound (daily driver) and don't want a full system with an amp...

Hey man, no offense taken

When I first heard the Hertz, I put them in the "Goo-Glee machine" and all I got was rental cars - LOL!! They are huge in Europe. Their Deici line is the most reasonable and are designed to be direct oem replacements... not requiring an amp. You may want to add a sub, but the rest of the frequencies are pure audiophile quality.

I truly hope you get to audition some of these before you make a final decision.

Why the component? For the tweeters to be replaced? Perhaps by replacing the honky mid range speakers it will fix the sound enough to be tolerable?? That's all I need. These stock speakers are amazingly bad. Just need that fixed.

this has this been a complaint of mine too...crap audio and especially crap through the aux....BUT...I got a new phone motogv3 and the aux is now better but XM playing well engineered music with heavy bass actually is way better than I originally thought...enough to shake all the mirrors and annoy the valley girls ...so garbage in garbage out but I am keeping XM in this car...well worth it.
