I'm thinking I may want to test it out at least once and see how it handles. If it's too bad, I'll just drive my Fusion in the snow I guess. But as I've said before, I bought the Camaro to drive it, not let it sit around for half of the year...

I'd obviously prefer not to switch the tires back and forth. Storage space is an issue for me (apartment).

Another question I have... with all of the talk about summer tires being bad below 40° or so... Is there any negative affect on the tires themselves when driving in the cold? Because we often have bitter cold weather (single digits and below) for a while, without even getting snow. So most of the time it would just be dry pavement, but very cold... Will this ruin my tires?
Goodyear makes an all season performance tire. It's the Goodyear F1 All Season.
If you go to Goodyear's website, you can get all the info. I've personally driven a car with thses tires on dry and wet pavement and they are very good. I've never driven in the snow with them however.

I thought about this long and hard. I decided when i get my camaro i will be parking it. Its not so much you cant drive them in the snow with a good set of winter tires its the dam road salt. It does sooo much damage to your car i couldnt handle that so a beater will get the call.

Do they make these in all sizes? They don't show up on tirerack.com when I try to find them for the Camaro... Just wondering if they are available elsewhere, or if maybe they don't exist in that size?

I just can't bring myself to buy a "beater" for the winter. My job is 25 miles away from me, and I think that a cold, snowy winter is the most important time to need a reliable car. If my car were to break down, I would much prefer to be walking during the summer, rather than the winter, you know what I mean? At the very least, I'll be keeping my Fusion if the Camaro doesn't fare well in the snow. But I am definitely gonna try it out first and see how it goes. I still have another year to go on my Fusion lease, so that will help me decide this winter while I have both cars...

On a previous car I attempted to drive summer tires in the winter. The rubber compound basically turns to hard rocks. You will have zero traction on any surface.

The difference is big enough that it's illegal not to have them here in Québec from the 15th of December through 15th of March.

Did you try goodyeartires.com? They may have more info there.
(When my ex-girlfriend got these tires, they were the latest and greatest on the market at the time. That was about a year ago.) It was 800 bucks for 4 tires and those are Scion TC sized tires which aren't that big to begin with. I can only imagine how much a set of 20's will run?!?!

Snow tires aren't bad for pavement driving unless you have them studded, and some states have laws as to what time of year you can use them. Don't mess around with all season tires in snow country, get yourself a set of LS steel rims 18" and Pirelli makes a Scorpion Ice and snow tires for those wheels 245x55x18 (msrp $169) www.tirerack.com Snow tires are designed with lots of siping slits and groves to maximize traction on snow and ice. They are usually made with a softer rubber compound, so they will wear fast in warmer weather, but provide great traction in the winter , so change them out in the spring for your all season tires. Changing tires back and forth on rims are hard on the tires and rims, and the money you save changing tires and balancing twice a year will pay for a set of snow tires in no time. Once those summer tires on your LT or whatever, wear out (or burn out) THEN put a set of all season tires on them!! HOWEVER those 18" LS steel rims won't fit on an SS because of the larger brake calipers. Kapishe? Don't just tink about it DO IT...like they say get 'er done! Strobi

My dealer is getting me the LS steelies with TPM and valves for $818.00. I'll also be getting the Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow tires for $169 each.

Not bad really.

In Oklahoma, we don't get snow, just ice. I'd rather drive on snow! I can't bring myself to take her out on the ice. But, I think I'll do the Yokohama's for winter on the 2SS. I have an old 4X4 for around the ranch I can drive when I "know" the ice is coming. But sometimes it just sneaks in and you have to get home. Summer only tires + Ice = wrecked Camaro.

I think I might just get all-season tires. The weather often gets below 40°F, even without snow, so summer tires would probably be bad during the winter months (at least from what everyone keeps saying). And as far as snow tires, I don't think they are necessary because our roads get plowed/salted very quickly. So during the whole winter, I rarely actually drive in snow. Maybe just a few times a month or so. We get huge snow storms, but then they clear the roads usually within a day, and they are clear for a week or so. So most of the time it will be dry (or wet/salted) roads. If it's really bad, I'll just drive the Fusion to work I guess.

Plus with the all-seasons, I don't have to worry about switching the tires twice a year, and/or buying new wheels to put them on. I don't race or go to the track, so the very little performance loss from the summer tires will go unnoticed by me. Seems like a pretty good trade-off for the convenience, I'd say.

Now I just don't know what I'm going to do with the stock tires... sell? Trade in?

On my last Gen.4 Z28 Camaro I put on 4-narrow width Bridgestone Blizzak's just for the the winter and they were GREAT in the snow. Going around a turn you really feel them keeping the car where it should be (no slipping front or back). Get 4 tires not 2.

You have the RS 20" summer tires (not good in the winter)....

You can get 18" steel LS rims. Try Ebay seen them for $600-$700. a set of 4with tires & presure sensors. Just the rims for app.$200.for 4, or buy cheap after market rims for under $100.ea.
Get narrower tread tires to dig into the snow much better than stock width tread.
I put 19" polished rims with all weather tires on my RS car, But not for the snow just for the look I wanted !

I went with the Bridgestone Blizzak's on 20" new rims - see this thread for the details - http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41966
