PDX Muffler Delete Shop?

EDIT: I decided to replace the stock mufflers with Flowmaster Super 44 Delta Flows & keep the stock tips. I'm hoping someone in the PDX area who's had it done, will recommend a good shop that's reasonably priced.

Nevermind.

ORS 815.250 Operation without proper exhaust system. Class C traffic violation.
Vehicle must be equipped with a muffler that meets the following noise levels: Motor vehicles 1976 & after, 91 dBA.

Since my vehicle must pass emission testing, it's not gonna happen.

Most modern mufflers should be able to pass that. You just need to find one that is quiet at idle, and roars under acceleration. The stock trash cans weigh about 30 lbs each.

Go to Punks. http://www.punksautomotiveandexhaust.com/ or
Complete Mufflers & Exhaust

4209 NE St Johns Rd Vancouver WA 98661 (360) 694-6300 Come to the garage day this Saturday and you can hear mine and make your own choice about emissions. The system still goes thru 4 cats, a cross over, then 2 resonators!

I'll be at the garage day, but I learned that Oregon requires a vehicle have muffler(s) installed. The car having to visit a DEQ station every 2 years, prompted me to look at Flowmaster Super 44 Delta Flows.

The Result

This follow-up comes after posting in this thread about replacing the mufflers. I the hope someone with the same question(s) that I had will find it useful.

After visiting a couple of reputable muffler shops, I learned that DEQ will only make an issue of mufflers not being installed, if the car sounds too loud during the biennial visits.

My concern with a muffler delete, is that I may not like sound of the AFM & I don't want to find out after the fact.

I also learned from the shops, that it isn't possible to simply swap the stock mufflers with aftermarket ones. There would be some modifications involved, which of course drive up the cost, to about $350 for Flowmaster Super 44 Delta Flows installed. This was confirmed by the good folks at Apex.

Another option is the Solo Axle Back with J-Pipes, which is about $650 installed.

Solo Axle Back with J-Pipes

It's a nice system, but spending that much to improve sound, isn't a high priority right now.

The learning experience has given me great options to consider & I'll probably go with one of them at some point in the near future.
