Sorry but no, your dad invested in an entirely different company.

Also that isn't how the stock market works. At all.

Here's my take on investing:

You lose your money the instant you buy that stock. All you can do is hope that you get it all back (and then some) when you eventually sell.

Yes, you could get 6 cylinder Chevelles, Novas and Impalas with an SS package. 1967 was the last year you could get a 6 cylinder Impala SS.

I never saw one, that's why I didn't think they existed.

Sorry but this is one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. So everyone that ever lost money on stocks should be paid back what they lost if the company does well?

I haven't seen a lot if things that exist... Only reason I know for sure is a neighbor bought a new 62 Impala SS with a 6 cylinder.
It looked exactly like this one.

If that was the case then I'm sinking my life savings into stocks. No risk!

This ^

GM could do it, they should do it, I see no reason why they shouldn't. Read reviews of the Fiesta ST, Focus ST. Every review says they are insanely fun to drive. Why would GM not want to jump in the ring and try to compete with that.

Exactly.

Will it light sales charts on fire? Probably not. But how many people are going to come in to look at a Cruze SS and think, "Hey I could still live with this" upon seeing the cheaper Cruze LT/RS sitting next to it?

Probably a "Bernie 2016" bumper sticker and the back of his car.

I'd take it as a sign to buy gold
