Lower pulley 18% vs 23%
Hello,
Getting ready to do some mods to the car, and I am struggling with which to go with. I have read a bunch of threads regarding the 2 and some reccomend the 18%, while many others go with the 23%. I have not had the car on a road course, but would like to at some point, but it's more likely to see a drag strip, and some autox action. Here is a list of the mods I have/planned. CAI Kooks LT 1 7/8 catless Rotofab I/C Reservoir ID850 New plugs and wires Possibly 90mm throttle body Dyno tune after mods Any help with one way or the other would be great. Also, on the ligenfelter chart, it shows that you don't need an idler relocation for the 18% lower, then on the next line it shows you need one? Which is correct? Thanks, Travis Last edited by Travis104; 02-05-2016 at 05:54 PM. |

Travis,
If your going to run an 18% remember to get the Id850 injectors or it will run too lean and damage your motor. I had an 18% on mine with almost the same mods you have listed and was told by Ted Jennetty (one of the very best tuners on this forum) that without a cam anything bigger would not be beneficial. Now when you go to a cam with the mods you are planning a lot of guys change the top pulley to a 2.5" with either a 10% or 18 % lower pulley. Check this chart out and note the goal is not to exceed 23000 RPM on the supercharger pulley. And remember that boost is a restriction reference and does not necessarily correlate to more power. You do need the re-location bracket with and 18% lower pulley, however if you change your supercharger pulley to a 2.5" use the relocation bracket to assist in more wrap around the pulley. If you go to the 23% you will need it for sure because your idler pulley located just above the crank pulley at the 11 o'clock position will have to be moved up a little because of the size of the 9.55 (23%) crank pulley. Hope this helps. There's a lot of guys on here who really know there stuff so comb the threads for more info!! http://www.lingenfelter.com/PRI2014s...heet%201.1.pdf Last edited by Harley01; 02-06-2016 at 10:46 PM. |

I just emailed Jannety and he said that you just need a 50mm idler pulley and it will allow you to install the 9.55 pulley. Didn't meant ion anything about a relocation bracket.

When you move to a cam you will go with the 23% pulley. Ideally you want to keep IAT to a minimum and not exceed the knock threshold of your octane. Especially in a road coarse situation. My 125 RWHP package is what I run on my ZL-1 on the road coarse, it uses the 18% pulley. Ted.

Would the 23% lower pulley have any adverse effects, and would it provide more power for a drag racing/autox car? I don't plan to do any road racing with it. My biggest concern was not being able to get it to run on 93 octane.

23% (9.55") for drag racing will not have any adverse effects with the appropriate tune, Travis. I will call you. For road racing, 23% is too much as I tried it at VIR. 93 octane is not an issue and the tune can be easily adjusted for the extra boost. Honestly, if you are road racing with the stock cam, 5-10% is about all that should be used after my experimentation. This is with an upgraded radiator and heat exchanger with reservoir.

So I may be better off going with the 18% since I would like to autox it and drag race. I plan on a cam a 2.55 upper maybe next year.

I ran the 23% without a cam for a few months, no issues. But once the cam comes in NIGHT AND DAY! Good luck, The people chiming in know what they are talking about. I have dealt with Ted on many occassions and have nothing but good things to say!

Would a BAP be needed for my mod list above?

I would say yes; my car with 10%, ID850's and stock pump shows that fuel pressure starts to drop around 5500 RPM, but not enough that I need to worry.
HP tuners is a great tool to keep an eye on these cars.
