New Buyer, First Car!

Hello All,

Let me start by saying i am a big fan of the Camaro. Specifically the Aqua blue metallic colored ones that was last available during 2010. Now that they're nearly identical for the 2016 model, my wait is over! I just bought one last week but it hasn't arrived yet (Whatever reason not specified to me). I am 25yrs old and this is my first Car.

I got a 1LT 2016 Camaro Hyper Blue Metallic.
Now you got to know, I do not know Cars like i know Computers.
I have a couple questions i am hoping you guys could help me with as my dealership was kinda shady yet had the car i wanted.

My Questions:
1) With the 2016 1LT Camaro, do these models come with a Rear backup camera? and is their actually a difference on these models with "Assist" vs "Rear Camera" or will i have the assist feature where it beeps? mine says "Rear Vision Camera" based off of the VIN search.

2) I expected the 1LT to come cheap! MSRP brings it to 26k. Mine reached 32k before Tax, down payment, dealership fees, etc. and i was not shown any break down of how the MSRP got to 32k for a 1LT. I know for sure it has the Technology and RS package, though thats about it. The girl i was dealing with was not able to provide any full details on paper as the Car wasn't there. My question is what could make it go from MSRP to 32k? what factory add-ons do you guys know?

3) Where does the APR get its calculation from? and i don't mean credit scores and all that, i mean the dollar amount calculation itself not the percentage. Mine reached 5k. and being that my APR is 5%, the amount it added says $5,345.00 I know i should ask my finance guy about this, and i'll be asking it as soon as the car is available. I just wanted to get an opinion from experienced buyers.

Thanks all! i expect to learn much from these forums as it is my first Car and i am a noobie at cars. Thanks in advance.

Hi Wess,

Congrats on the new purchase. If I were you I'd go and actually drive this vehicle and check out all the features. Your paying 32K before Tax for a car your not sure what it even has...

i can help with #2, 3

2. it all depends on the "packages" that are part of the car. rs package=2k, v6 (vs 4cyl)=1.5k you can go through chevy website and build the car and see what the different packages cost.

if you are paying msrp for the car go else where as you should be able to deal a little and get at least 1.5-2k off of msrp.

3. your interest is solely based off of your credit score. bad/no credit = higher apr. now if the dealer didnt actually run your credit and gave you an approximate cost they usually use like a 5%. if you have good credit, apr is negotiable. most credit unions you can get a 1.9-2.9% for 6 years. if you have good credit you have to use it as a tool and tell them you are going else where. dealers make money when you get a loan through them that is why they push it so much. a dealer can legally mark up an apr by 2% then what the bank may actually give it to the dealer for. ex the bank give the deal to the dealer for 2% and they give it to you for 4% (most people dont know this). your best bet is to see what a credit union can do and use it as a tool to get the dealer to beat it or match it.

Well i just picked up my Car today! it kinda sucks that they didn't have the sticker. i was told it would arrive after a day or so and be mailed to me.
I did build the car on Chevy's site to get the price they arrived at. If i got it right, its just as you mentioned. a V6, Tech package, RS package, Auto trans reaches right on the price.

Your response on Number 3. makes a lot of sense. I've learned a lot.
That makes sense why my finance guy advised to make several payments before refinancing. Since they chose the bank they probably get commission. ; )

Anyways Thank you Sir! much appreciated.

thats because the dealer doesnt get the commission if a loan is closed and re-fi's before the 6 months. you can do it whenever you want. more than likely there is a no early payoff penalty. this is why a lot of dealers are starting to give you an additional rebate if you loan through them.

Hey, congratulations on your new purchase. I am also a huge fan of the Camaro, last year in the month of December I bought my car. Mine is of Blue color, I have selected this color since my wife loves the one.
