No A/C
Just curious what everyone thinks about a Non A/C Z/28. Is it worth more or less in terms of desirability. Also, what kind of weight savings is there with a non a/c car?

It is only 40-50lbs so you make the choice. I vote for A/C even though I rarely use mine. Desirability...more with A/C unless someone wants a track dedicated car.

In 30 years if you have a non A/C and A/C car of equal condition, color, etc. (especially if a 2014 and rare color) the non AC will be worth more (IMO), because it represents the Z/28 in it's purest form.
Now, I am not advocating these cars as investments because there are far too many factors to be certain about how it will turn out, but they are on Hagerty's hot list for a reason. Regardless, by the time I get done with mine it will most likely have far too many miles to be worth much. I couldn't fathom stowing it away with the hope that it will be worth big money one day, but I don't knock those who do... everyone floats their boat differently and to each their own. |

I seriously considered a non A/C car to have the purest Z/28, but I also didn't want to hesitate to drive it because it is hot (SoCal summers can be brutal). I already have a track style car with no A/C, and there have been times that I have wanted to drive it, but did not because of the heat.
So when weighing having a more pure car for the track (and possibly a more valuable car some time in the future) against driving it whenever I want--I went with putting as many miles on it as possible. Mark |

Shark72 - I own a non-AC car. And also as others have said, I find the purity of the car similar to an old muscle car. It sucks to be in the heat and drive the car, but is easily over looked because of "race car", the driving that is actually required, and the smile I have on my face when getting out. Not because I am happy to get out of the car sweaty, but because I cannot believe I own such a badass machine.
I would use a formula to calculate Your local weather + owning a Z/28 --Divided by-- time spent in grid lock ---Equals--- total number of days you'll regret not owning this car! .. .. As for the long term value-- The only cars that will be worth big money are the ones people want. Despite there being a handful of 1 of 1 cars for 2014 (US & CAN), I bet a black or white with under 100 miles will be worth the most. I bet that in a decade or less, we will begin to see the "wrapper" cars emerge with double MSRP asking prices. But first we will see the used market settle, and likely see them in the $40s before any kind of value is realized. |

As another owner of a non-AC car, I actually wanted it that way, for the same reason I wanted a '14 model. Aside from having (as mentioned), the lightest car and the car as GM "intended" (since they went to the trouble to even offer a car without AC, and I'm pretty sure there were no other Chevy cars offered as such), there is the rarity factor.
Now I realize there is *not* necessarily a correlation between rarity and desirability. I'm sure the dealer who sold my car was relieved when he found a sucker, uh, I mean buyer. There's a reason only around 5% of ALL '14/'15 Z/28's were ordered without AC. Who in this age would buy a car without it, let alone a car with an MSRP of $75k?? I knew I would never use mine as a DD or even as a regular nice weather car. If I was going to, there would be no way I could stand it. So from my perspective, unless you're that guy or maybe a track freak, a Z/28 without AC is going to be less in demand, no question, at least for the immediate future. If, at some point these cars begin to attract a following and collectors begin to take notice, I would expect that the estimated 100 (32 for '14, '15's still TBD) non AC cars to reverse that trend. Of course, I may not live that long... |

You may be correct but my vote would be the Air car both short and long term will out trump a non-A/C car. I grew up with muscle cars and purest form does not always equate to higher value but only time will determine for sure. But one thing is for sure, both are fun cars.
