I was going to buy the wife a new convertible Camaro, but this thread talked me in to getting her a bad ass 2001 pickup from Changfeng Motor Co. Only paid $349; and I got me over $34,000 in my pocket (no mods for her- bad ass as is!!). Gets her from a-b just the same.
At least she can roll down the window.

And all for what? You don't need to trash those of us who don't choose the products that you like! It's not like you are pushing a bad option. The headers you like are no question high quality, great option. But stand by your beloved product on its own price vs performance ratio. No need to trash everyone else. Or...lets do an audit of your own property, and see just how American you are. And just so we're clear...I've got no horses in this race. I'm a general Joe-Schmo hot rodder. Wife, 3 kids, great life that has nothing to do with the automotive world. And I'm a bit cheap. $700 probably means more to me than it should. It's not so much the $700...it's that I could pay $340 for something that others want $1000+ for. And I'm struggling to find a reason why. Why not spend that money on something else? And to be fair (I'm not that cheap)...I've got a $7000+ Kenne Bell supercharger....a Flowmaster exhaust....a Hurst shifter. And now Speed Engineering Headers....ID1000 injectors....ZL1 pump and ADM FPCM...HP Tuners for tuning. I could go on and on. Some of the things I've purchased are approved here, some not. I'm independent. Last edited by cc-rider; 02-10-2016 at 01:51 AM. |

If you go back and re-read this thread, the only people bitching are the ones who feel the need to justify buying cheaper headers. In the end, I'm glad I bought what I have and you should be too; who gives a shit what someone else thinks.

There is no difference in power. Even among the big names who introduce these new designs and yada yada. A standard set will perform just the same.
There is no difference in fitment. Of all of us who have either TSP or OBX, you won't find any of us who had issues during the install...except for maybe the guys who got 2" and that was more due to variances in clearance under the hood. A lot of us with the cheap stuff have had them and used them on a DD for many years and miles. Mine have been going for about 2 years and 20K miles. Sure they rusted a bit. I expected that to happen and am ok with it. If it rusts thru, then I'll buy some cheap 2" headers next time. As far as the metal used, they're all mainly T-304 SS. ARH or Kooks or Pfadt 304 is not better than 304 from another country. One company was using 400 grade. That was XS-Power. And they were selling a complete set of headers with the 3 inch catback for $900 which is a great deal. And even at that, 400 grade steel is still very durable. You'd probably be 10 years or more down the road before you notice any difference between 400 and 304. Yes 304 is better, but being better doesn't make 400 grade crap. Did OBX steal designs and stuff? I don't care. Is it cheaper to manufacture stuff in China? I don't care. Money talks. |

My Speed Engineering headers just arrived. There is a merge spike in the collectors. In case anyone is wondering how the budget headers look....
No complaints here! So far, feeling like $350 well spent. Hopefully they fit as well as everyone says. |

They look good to me. Spend that extra $700 on the wife and kids if you have any or just more mods.

I wasn't even aware they had a merge spike in the collector. Mine should arrive tomorrow. I'll post some pics.

I didn't expect one. There was no mention of it anywhere. Not a great pic but here it is.

Well there you go. Yet another thing going for it. Although I've never really thought that the merge spike truly gives any more power. I suppose there is some logic behind it. Though nothing that could be proved out on a dyno in a repeatable way. And all things being equal (aka...not paying $700 more for it) I guess I'd rather have one than not.
