It might depending on the track. But the way I look at it is this way, if can beat the 350TP around a road course, that means this thing should be right at or right behind teh Z/28

That's my only concern as well, but I think on the right track it can. Not to mention the base 350 isn't "track ready" like the 1LE is supposed to be.

So...not that it would be a fair comparison (different days) but they said the 1LE is 3 seconds faster around Willow Springs than the standard SS. If we know the standard SS time, we can get close to the 1LE time. From there, if the GT350 or the Z/28 has ran Willow springs...we can then draw some sort of comparison.

Other than the coolers, I'm not sure what makes the GT350 not track ready. I'm pretty sure Ford said the base car can run 20 minute sessions without any issues.

Aside that point, I feel the GT350 is like the Viper ACR. The qualities it has don't really show up in instrumented testing. The Z06 and ACR were basically even during instrumented testing but the ACR lapped Laguna Seca much faster.

I can't believe no one has hot lapped the SS yet. I guess we will see what it can do around Laguna Seca in a few weeks during the Motor Trend Head2Head.

Same here, atleast make the MRC an option.

To each his own, but I can do without the creature comforts that are mentioned by some. By keeping it 1SS, the 1LE niche will not be diluted with fluff.

First off, this is not suppose to be a direct competitor to the GT350. That car with the track pack is almost 60 grand. Technically, since it is a package you can get on the SS, it should be compared to a GT with the performance pack. It will get compared to the GT350 as it's performance will be so far past the GT performance pack, that the GT350 will be it's best competition numbers wise. I can see this car beating a base GT350, and giving a GT350 performance pack a real headache for what I bet will be about 15 grand less...

As for my SS/1LE gripes...

1-Price, but we don't know for sure yet. I know it won't be $3500 again, too much content. But it really needs to stay at about $5000. That is what the Z51 option on the C7 is...

2-MRC, NPP and the Recaros should have been options, not standard. Why? Well some (like myself) may prefer an high end aftermarket coilover set up. (I sure hope MRC lowering springs come out soon). Some may just want to go aftermarket for the exhaust right off the bat, and have no need for the NPP to come with the car. Finally, for some who may daily drive theirs, or may be a bigger dude, the Recaros may be a little much. Plus, doing that could allow for a starting price a good $2000-$3000 or so less...

My only complaint is that the A8 is not an option. I have trashed my right shoulder and wrist crashing dirt bikes, so shifting the manual can get painful. Plus I like to drag race occasionally and autos are just better on the drag strip. Maybe I will just wait for the ZL1 or whatever with the automatic and extra 175 horsepower.

I'm not a fat guy and I can tell you when you throw a 1le hard into a corner with standard seats its a struggle to stay put.

Not really, this car is not a drag car. A manual is the better overall choice on an autocross or larger circuit. It seems GM agrees, remember, they even recommend the manual on the Z06 if you want to track it...

I don't think they care about big sales, this is a niche car. Plus, the 1LE has always been manual only.

My big issues in order are:

No upgraded stereo, but I get it, its not a Grand Touring vehicle

No automatic, again, I get it, if it had had either of the other missing options, I would have learned to drive stick for this awesome piece of equipment >.<

No cooled seats. Not a requirement for me, but the girlfriend said if I wanted a dark interior, it had to have ventilated seats

Up side, I feel like Im only missing out on the eLSD and Im not planning on tracking frequently enough to make it worthwhile because I can get the wheels used >.<
This is why she shouldn't ever upgrade from the status of girlfriend to fiancee or wife.

I'm completely serious. My wife would never try and tell me how to option the car I wanted. This isn't the family minivan.

Needs a a8 option. This car will have no issue with a gt350 and I suspect in a tighter track it will have no problems with the gt350r.

I was reading Road and Track or Motortrend and they are saying the Recaros are optional not standard. Some conflicting reports.

Based on what exactly? You are saying the 1LE would outrun a 5th gen Z/28.

On the V6 yes, they are optional.

On the V8 they are standard.
