FI motors @ sea level vs not.

I have been trying to read up on this. However what I have been reading. There is always back and fourth fighting. And No actual proof. Why I'm asking is I'm about to move from an elevation of 3,000 feet to 6,000 feet. Will my tune change any drastically since I have nitrous on top of my already FI motor? Will my FI motor still make the same hp with the elevation difference?

From what I have read na is the worst effected, then sc, then turbos and nos is the least effected, and at higher elevation you can get away with running more boost with a tune but if you go back to sea level you have to be careful, so as far as same hp just on fi no, as far as how much I'll see if I still have the equation saved in my email

Awesome! I talked to my shop late last night about this. And he seems not to be worried to much about the change in elevation. He said with my FI motor I will see same peak hp numbers? Can anyone back that up? Thanks in advance!

No you will not. Tune depends on how it was tuned. Sd is more sensitive to elevation than maf tunes.

Do you know why? I am trying to understand the definition behind why? I know our FI cars makes its own atmospheric pressure. So when the altitude increases the air gets thinner? Therefore it can't compress as much air correct? But ultimately it will climb go maximum boost or am I wrong?

Yes, forced induction (turbocharging and supercharging) does help. In each of these applications the air is forced into the engine at higher pressures, effectively negating some of the loss from altitude. However, turbocharged (and supercharged) engines still lose about 1.5 percent of their power for every 1,000 feet of altitude gained

Depending on where you are going may not have same fuel as well. Some places I've been to in CO (assuming thats where you're going) highest octane I saw at pumps was 91

Colorado Springs. I am tuned on 91 octane gas. So perfect. I will read that article now. Man! Now I am not wanting to move since my car is going to be slower. oh well, I'll just keep her away until summer hits in Texas. And bring her to San Antonio. Way way better altitude. so I'm assuming I might need 2 different tunes the ? Running @ 6,000 feet above sea level vs 600?

The good thing is that every one has to deal with it, plus since you have nos as well that will be a nice helping hand, and as far as tune I can't help you there, but there are a few people in the colorado/rockies section that may be more informative there on that issue one being dreksnot

Yeah but who likes moving, knowing your cars going to be slower. Oh well at least I'll still have her with me in co.

think though some na cars you couldn't beat at sea level you will be beating them at altitude and with nos you may not lose as much as you think. But only one way to find out

We will find out in about 2 weeks when I close the deal on the house. Maybe give it a little test run while I'm up there.
