Just to add what I ended up doing for a solution, I ended up taking my car over to Lethal Performance in San Antonio and had them look at it. Turns out there was an aftermarket starter on the car that was just about on its last legs. The headers were heating it up pretty bad and supplementing a new OEM starter from the Chevy dealership seems to have fixed it. Don't foresee it giving me problems anytime soon, and Lethal warranties all of their work and parts they order so at least I have a shop to fall back on. Thanks for everyone's help!

Mine started doing this as well. I only have 9,500 miles on my car but when it has been running for a little while and I stop for a short time it tries to start and when I release the key it keeps trying to start for a few seconds. It finally starts after a few seconds but it's annoying. I thought it might be a leaking injector but these only have 2,000 miles on them so I'm not sure.

A customer came to the shop with a similar issue. Wasn't the same year.
It was a 71 with a 540cu.in. They had tried a lot of things, but when it was warm,it was almost impossible to start.

Bigger motor, bigger amp draw. One way to cure it,put heavier gauge grounds.
We replaced the stock like little factory grounds with bigger gauge ground wires. 1 at the engine and the other in the truck. This car the Battery was in the trunk. The battery was a 1200cca battery and it still couldn't start the car.The starter was a high performance gear reduction starter that is suppose to handle up to 18-1 compression.

Now with the heavy gauge grounds. The thing starts like if it had a stock 305-350 in the car.
