Unhappy weld/cut work quality on muffler-delete

Hello all! longtime lurker here,

I recently had my muffler-delete setup installed, note that i did not go with any aftermarket part rather the shop did a custom job. I noticed two things, one the car is almost as quiet as stock, I can barely notice the difference which i did not expect as I've heard its much louder with the muffler delete, is the muffler-delete maybe 10% louder tops?

Second is the quality of the cut/weld, while the cut pipe sits inside the tips for a better look, they are still very visible and i dislike it. Is it normal for it to look that shitty? is just a bad job? I've called to make an appointment to review it but I don't want to waste my time going back to the shop if possible. any comments appreciated!

WOW... what in the actual f***!?!?

To answer your question that looks terrible and it shouldn't look that bad. Jeez it's just a piece of metal welded in place of that giant suitcase (muffler) they got rid of, instead it looks almost as if they shoved a small metal pipe in there and called it a day.

Muffler delete is a night and day difference, you wont believe how amazing it sounds. When I got my car's muffler delete done, I heard a loud ROAR in the garage they were working in about 45 minutes after I dropped it off and I was like "Jeez that car sounds cool."

and as you guessed it, it was MINE! So yeah... it should definitely be loud.

Not really a permissible weld/cut/grind job in my book. As far as performance, probably won't affect it much being at the exit. Loudness...? It shouldn't sound anything like stock. Make sure they didn't cut off the bumper side of the muffler and weld your pipe and tips onto the muffler. That would be about pointless and you'd probably be missing material when they go back to try and fix it; AKA you losing out and having to buy another delete kit.

It's ugly but it'l be blackened soon and you'll never see it again. When I began working my exhaust I took it to a friends muffler shop and after telling him about muffler delete he just laughed. :

He said let me show you something and he cut the mufflers off and started the car. I could hardly tell any difference.

So I told him to remove the resonator and he said it won't get noticeably louder until you get rid of the cats or go Hi Flo. He was right!

Not true resonator and muffler delete will be loud.

Mine's a L99 and I know my car! I guess you need to define loud huh? I know it's hard to do with a cell phone etc, but check out this clip and tell me if you think it's loud.

I dunno man, I had my resonators and mufflers deleted and that sucked was pretty loud. I mean the stock exhaust sucked, you could hardly tell the car was even on.

So it was a pretty big difference, maybe they welded a bigger pipe on there for me, not sure.

Appears to have been cut with a chop saw and not deburred afterward,,,meaning removing all the loose material left that you see in your photo with a pineapple or other shaped deburring bit.

That is loud. Not sure what you are trying to saying if it's a loud car or not. The description of video says headers HF cats ect so that is more then a resonator delete and muffler delete I'm confused. Here is mine ls3... Stock headers, stock diameters, 2nd cat delete, resonator delete, stock H, with cherry bomb mufflers, ( side note the 2nd cat delete was done recently and didn't change the sound much there is another video on my youtube if you care to compare) https://youtu.be/u9gMzxe5jwg

I was trying to determine what was considered "loud" with the video. I can only give you my first hand experience and the car you heard in the video is louder than stock but passes as street legal with GM mufflers with maybe the exception of Hi Flo cats. A revving Honda can sound loud to some people. Listen to it again it's in my barn which makes it seem louder than it is and notice the starter sounds louder than the exhaust.

Well we've beat this to death and your talking Ls3 I'm talking L99 which as you know are different engines, transmissions, and exhaust so we're talking apples to oranges.

As a practitioner of the "welding arts", personally, that is a hack job. For a professional job, they should have cut the tips off your stock mufflers, and mated them to the straight pipe, after removing all of the flashing left from cutting the pipe to begin with. The transition should be somewhat smooth, with very little of the straight pipe protruding into the tip. Just my $.02....

This is what it looked like to me, like a job done rushed without thinking of the details. I will be taking the car back tomorrow to be reviewed. For clarification, the original muffler and tips were damaged when my car was hit from behind so they were replaced with this and this is where I'm at. I took my car to a Chevy dealership but they outsource all their muffler work and this is the result...

For clarity on the loudness side of things, my car has no modifications other than the mufflers removed. And for comparison, I consider it being maybe 10% louder than stock at idle, this becomes maybe 20% when at around 2K RPM and when starting the engine then quiets down after about 30 secs. Maybe I just expected it to be MUCH louder with no muffler. Now im wondering if it would be louder with a performance Flowmaster/Magnaflow muffler... even though it does not make sense on my head!
