Rally stripes... paint or tape now?

With the advent of all rally stripes being installed at the factory now, does anyone know if the black will be painted on, or will it still be the vinyl kit?

None of the stripes are currently painted at the factory (all vinyl), so I don't know why all the stripes being applied at the factory would change it for black.

Hmm... looks at the cost....

Yea there is no way GM is painting on Rally Stripes for less then $500 when it is normally a $2,000+ option

Painted Rally Stripes

I am one who believes that these Gen 5 Camaros should have rally stripes. I like the connection with its past heritage. I just ordered my 2SS without the stripes so that I can get them painted on.

The dealer or factory vinyl stripes cost around $450-$500. Several quality paint shops in my area have quoted me at $750-$850 for painting the stripes. That is doing it correctly; base color painting, stripe painting and clear coating the entire hood, deck and spoiler.

An additional $200-$300...it was a no brainer for me. Plus, I think the glossy stripes look much better than the flat vinyl.

Alfie

PS: If I wanted the "hockey sticks", the price ran up to $1500-$1600. You have to paint 4 more panels; 2 fenders and 2 doors.

Hmmm... When I ordered my Camaro with black stripes, the dealer told me they were tape and installed by the dealer, but the other colors were painted on by the factory.

I'm sure he said the ABM he just sold had the white stripes factory painted, and it was just the LPO(?) stripes that were dealer installed.

I was just hoping that my car would be coming with the stripes painted on because of the recent changes.

It would be awesome if they were painted on, but like said before, for $500 that seems pretty impossible. I guess we'll have to wait a couple of weeks until some of them start getting delivered.

I've never seen a salesperson yet that really knows everything about the car they're selling. There are exceptions, like Camaro Scotty of course, but most will tell you what you want to hear.

Just so you all know as well. My car got caught up in the "new stripes being put on at the factory fun" I original ordered thinking it would be happening at the dealership. Well they got me! haha. Lets just say, get ready for a little extra waiting. My car sat still at Ready to Ship Truck for a week. Come to find out that week it was getting the stripes put on by GM... Took them 2-3 days to build the car and a week to put the stripes on... have fun! Thankfully my car just got a rail car this morning.. its been ready to ship since 28AUG09 lmao!

Lets just say.. these stripes better be on the car PERFECT!

I would chalk it up to your dealer is an idiot. None of GM's cars come with painted stripes from the factory.

The reason for the delay, the car is sent to an outside vendor for vinyl stripes to be installed.

Cyber Gret Metallic Rally Stripes

I just went to see the first Silver with CGM rally stripes available in my area.
The stripes are vinyl and looked bad in comparison to painted stripes I had imagined from the factory (which I ordered). I am going to have to revise my order changing to another exterior color with no stripes or plan to pay the extra for custom painted stripes. Since I'm a fan of keeping vehicles stock, I'm picking a different color and going without the stripes...
