You usually pay a premium to be on the leading edge of most new things, You're going to pay a higher price right now to be in the first group of new owners of the 2016 Camaro. It was the same when the Gen 5 came out. For that extra cash you get bragging rights and are in the new minority of new owners. That lasts about a year. Many of the new owners will tout them as the greatest car ever built and they are nice, but there will be bugs to work out and future model years will be changed and improved. This is just how it goes in the auto and technology world. I just bought a new Gen 5 2SS/RS and will be quite happy driving it while I am watching the Gen 6 enter the market and evolve into what it will be in a few years which is when I will consider trading up into one IF I'm impressed with them at that time. Prices will have settled down and some deals should be around by then. Many thanks to those who are the first to dip their toes in the water. Someone has to do it, it's just not for me.

Starting price for the Vette, 1lt, is right around $55-56K, no mrc, no NPP, 7 speed manual trans, no HUD. To get any of those things, you're hitting $60K easy.

Of course, the Corvette is the Corvette, but GM as really closed the gap between the Camaro and the Corvette in terms of performance. It only fits that they would close the gap on the MSRP as well.

As far as things like window tint on a new car, I would rather pay the dealer $400 at time of purchase than source it out later for less money. My reasoning is that with the dealer, you have a much better path of recourse if something goes wrong, either quality or legal issues. Not to mention that it could be negotiated in the deal which could wind up saving money.
This!

"Way more power" than what? A Gen6 SS? You might want to look at the horsepower ratings.

Well said. The $50K Camaro is a 2SS with a crap ton of options and LPO's like the Brembo brake upgrade, wheel upgrade, NPP, MRC, etc.

If dealers are trying to get 50k for a 1SS stripper model then shame on them...and even more shame on the consumer that buys it.

A lot of people try to compare the Camaro and Corvette. Even if the price is similar it's still apple to oranges. Two different cars, two different buyers IMO.
