most people can't shift faster than the auto anyway and lots can't drive stick anymore because of injuries or other issues, some might even like to see the wives get some enjoyment out of their mans ride, who knows

I would take the C7 Z06/07 Vett with a A8 tranny in a heartbeat.

I support this statement!

The idea that a true sports car can only have a manual transmission is short sighted...

If you watch any of the driving line videos from MT, Randy Pobst was faster around the track in an auto... Though he still said he preferred the MT fun factor... Guarantee when it comes to racing and winning he will take whatever is faster.

What is more fun to one or another person is all opinion based...

JR noticed you have done some extensive mods to your car, what's your 1/4 mile times with that beast?

I for one am handicap, and if it wasnt for the Auto Tran offered would have to have started off with an SS. So, Im pretty happy after 3 years that Chevy decided to offer the AT.

I guess Lamborghini, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Bugatti, and Bentley are all stupid.... they have all stated that they will be releasing cars without a manual option.

Manual = more control, more driving fun ("fun" is debatable I guess)
Modern Auto (especially single/dual clutch autos) = faster lap times

I'd rather have a manual because I enjoy shifting and controlling the car. However if I was trying to get the fastest lap times possible, I'd get an auto

In response to the OP question, if you can get a ZL1 within $10k of an SS, that seems like the best route. Comparing the price of my 2SS/RS to a ZL1 around here, the ZL1's are about $20k more. So far I've put maybe $5k into mine, not going to do much else (we've all heard that before, right?! haha)

Forget auto vs manual, that's a dead horse.

I did some research here in San Antonio and there's some ZL1's on the market for $36k with 40,000 miles... man that's $11k more than my SS when I bought it.

I chose to mod my SS because my wife vetoed a ZL1 purchase--twice. I have to do my mods under cover because she'd blow a gasket if she could see the mods or know how much I've spent. I hate being secretive, but IMHO she's unreasonable. I could have had a ZL1 for less money, but she refused. So a forged 427 is all her fault. Yeah, that's it...it's her fault.

That it is...

I wouldn't consider (at my current stage of health) ever getting an automatic in a sports car, but that's just me. Here on this forum, like anywhere on the internet, opinions are EVERYWHERE. Just because I wouldn't drive an auto in a sports car doesn't make that the RIGHT opinion or the ONLY opinion.
