Road Course/Open Road Prep

Background: 2014 1LE that is stock besides 160 thermostat/headers/intake/tune and Hankook RS3s. This car is rarely driven and not something I want to sink a ton of money into because I know it would be easy to do. Lets say a 1k budget minus tires and brakes.

However, I am wanting to start getting into Big Ben Open Road Race, local road course, etc. I understand I will be spending money on tires/pads more frequently.. but give me some necessities. Already have safety gear suit/helmet/extinguisher.

Obvious items:
Dot 4 Fluid
Brake Pads (give me advice, would like a cleaner pad without any squeak for street use but still provide more bite)

Additional Items:
What is a necessity in your opinions??? Remember 1k budget for these items.

In the end I just want to make sure I overcome any significant weaknesses in the 1LE that are made apparent on the road course or at a high rate of speed.

First thing I would look into is a brake upgrade to the front. Either CTS-V or BBK from someone. Then provide cooling to the fronts. In terms of pads, once you start getting into the performance pad arena, they all start to get pretty dusty, but I'm sure there are some that are cleaner than others, unfortunately I don't which ones those would be. There's a lot more you can do to the car but IMO the brakes are what need to be touched on first.

The most important background is going to be about you. Are you a seasoned track rat or is this your first rodeo? Which track?

If you're a relative newcomer, you likely won't be very hard on your brakes just yet, so other than the flush to DOT-4, I'd not touch anything with brakes at this time (that can get very expensive). I'd start with an alignment, harness bar, and harnesses.

But that's me.

My thoughts on some things:
  • Driving Nannies: If I'm that far out of shape on the street, something has gone terribly wrong and by all means Mr. Computer man, come and get me.
  • G2s: Rock throwing is like like a tramp stamp; although problematic, it's a sign of good things to come.

Use to be in into AutoX but that in my opinion is not the same at all. Appreciate the advice, I am not ready to drill into my interior yet but I have already considered a harness bar and harness.

In your shoes, I'd to the first feeler out there almost stock. By stock I mean, make sure you do all the essentials, that even the owners manual recommends. That would be fresh Dot 4, and rear diff fluid that is good to go.

I would also do two more things before your first outing, and that is an alignment, and to flush and refill with 65-70% distilled water, 1 bottle Redline waterwetter, and OEM coolant in the rad.

That's what I would do for the first higher speed, road course outing. Then I'd adjust accordingly, think of it as tailoring your suit.

Wear it first
