Is the rear gear not covered on the power train 5 yr 100,000 mile warranty?

It is, but not the fluid change they say this is only covered under the 3/36 which i just came out of. Nice By the way, Love your car.

Here is another old link to this problem with many of the same comments. Since you are going to pick up the tab you can change the fluid as many times as you choose. I paid to have it changed once and the bill was $167 which fortunately corrected the problem. If you follow the TSB to the letter and still have excessive chatter or clunking then you spent the $600 to obligate GM to pick up the tab for a new pumpkin.

Thanks, I've had mine changed a couple of times, once due to noise and recently due to multiple track day use.

Talked to previous owner, this car was a trailer queen. Did changing the fluid solve the noise issue? there is a clunk in the rear when stopping or taking off when fluid is warm.

GM just got back to me after a week, basically said no coverage on the TSB! 5000 miles and sixty grand and im changing the gear lube! not even knowing if this is the fix for the clunk and noises in the the rearend? They asked me if I had questions, I asked and no response! I guess they forgot who bailed them out a few years ago..................................

Its like 2.2 qts if I remember, just change it do the figure 8's and the then change it again when you have time, it will be gone.

I had them replace fluid, replace ring and pinion, and then replace complete pumpkin.

Noise is now gone. My tech said he found the bearing housing in the orignial pumpkin was out of round.
