Turn Down Exhaust
I'm considering removing my cat back and putting turn down exhaust tips instead. I'm looking for pros and cons of this, preferably from people who have done it on their vehicles or know people who have done it. Any youtube clips would be greatly appreciated as well.
P.S.-The car is registered in SC and will not be a DD upon returning from my deployment in April.

I've got a video of mine as I was installing the loudmouth 2 with no cat back exhaust on it. If that's the sound you are looking for PM me your email and I'll send it.
However, after reading your mods, your car probably won't sound like mine. Search YouTube for cut outs or no weeds videos. It'll probably sound like that. Last edited by nosmr2; 03-14-2016 at 07:42 PM. Reason: Missed stuff |

I would have searched prior to posting, but I am on a government computer and they have blocked Youtube. Uncle Sam doesn't want his troops watching videos on his computers I suppose.
Also, to get an preview of how turn downs will sound will taking off the axle back portion of exhaust give an accurate example? Or will the literal turn down part of the tips alter the exhaust sound? -CC

I had turndowns, with headers, no cats and using a resonated x pipe as a muffler.
It sounded great but it made my car smell like exhaust inside. But that's part of running no cats, I'm also cammed TSP 229/236 113lsa idles around 950. The sound was very deep and not as loud as I thought it would be. There was some rasp, drone was minimal, but the main drawback was the smell. |

Forgot the pic, the mufflers at the rear aren't hooked up. They are only there to fill the rear diffuser with a chrome tip. I'm actually selling the complete set up if you want it.

That's creative right there! I won't need your set up though. I looked a turn down tips, MBRP has them for about $50. I figured I would attach them to my Borla S-Type after the X pipe.
On a scale of 1-10, how bad was the smell while cruising and while sitting? Thanks 762!

I love the smell of my car with no cats, but it was a solid 8.5 while at a stoplight. 10 is a diesel. Cruising was normal, zero smell. The sound with it dumped was amazing, very deep and unique sounding.
When it was cold out I could see the exhaust cold vapor/fumes? collect under the rear. It would then drift upwards along the bumper cover and the smell would fill the trunk and spread throughout the entire car. I've been catless for over 15K? The smell didn't really bother me until it was pouring directly into the cabin. Try it out, it's not hard to go back if you don't like it. Also remember the rear bumper might look kind of odd with open holes. |

That would suck to cruise with turndowns all the time I would assume. Having the exhaust tips not under the car makes a big difference for sound inside the cabin and vibrations
