Passenger airbag ceiling light

Could someone confirm that the yellow/amber “passenger airbag off” light is supposed to be lit when the front passenger seat is completely empty? I was under impression that this lights should only be on if there is something light, light a dog or a child, occupying the seat. If there is nothing on the seat, there should be no airbag light at all. Yet, recently I’ve been noticing that the light is there all the time, unless there is an adult passenger occupying the seat, in which case “passenger airbag on” light comes on.

Was I just not paying attention to that light when I was driving along, or is it indeed supposed to be extinguished when there is nothing on the seat? In which case, there something wrong with my airbags.

Light is on (passenger air bag off) when you are alone in the car.

Thanks! Appreciate the response. I guess I was just not paying attention before.
