Having doubts. Need advice.

Hello everyone. I've had my 15' 1le for about 5ish or so months. I just bought a set of kooks header, CAI, and 160 degree thermostat. But my parents aren't really happy about it they called the guy who sold me the car and told them that it will void the warranty. And I'm only at around 5800ish miles. Should I just put them on anyway? I've gotten a lot better at manual but I am still no expert. Sometimes I will miss shift.

Do you think I should put them on and void the warranty and risk it. Or just sell them and put the intake on and wait? Thanks in advance.

Ps this is my car I pay for everything I'm not some spoiled kid

You gotta pay to play my friend. My 2010 LLT just got a new motor put in last year which came with a 3yr warranty so naturally I'll wait a little bit till I mod the motor. With the LS3 being a much more reliable motor I would feel less nervous doing anything to it than I would my current LLT.
In reality its your car and nobody can tell you what to do. I would definitely get the hang of the manual before you go adding more power though. Nothing like having 450hp and not knowing how to handle it.

Why would your parents call the guy who sold it you if they didn't buy it? Sounds like its their money in some form or another so you might want to listen to them.

I'm willing to buy the headers (if you have the high flow cats too) from you if you decide against installing them. I just bought an intake and tuner and was going to wait on headers but i can help ya out.

Luckily! Its not your parents car. Do what you want. If you're worried about breaking the car you shouldn't be modding then. Pay to Play. Cut the umbilical cord.

No, but he will likely get a CEL and need a tune, which most dealers will use to void your warranty.

Well then go ahead and do what you want. We would all be lying if we said we weren't a little worried when we did that first mod that voided the warranty. After that, you will just want more. Enjoy it.

I had a V6 Gen 5 and when I installed JBA "shorty" headers that were CARB approved, they caused an exhaust related CEL (check engine light) after some time, like 2 months. I knew not to take it to the dealer, since the car was still under warranty. I drove my car that way until I tried to have a local performance shop fix it. I had the header collectors welded (they were held on by a clamp) to the exhaust pipe and it still got the CEL. I then bought a $700 tune and was told by the tuner that they would tune out the CEL. Guess what? It came back again after some time. I'm not trying to scare you or anything. Plenty of people on here have had good experiences with installing headers on the LS3. It's your car so it's your decision. Most of all, enjoy it!!

Installing headers on a 5th gen is as easy and simple as it gets ,you should be able to do it yourself. CIA also easy .You do not need a 160 T stat ,stick with the factory T stat. If you get a CEL ,and you most likely will , get a tune and enjoy.

If the cause of the failure was related to the aftermarket work/parts done, and installed on the car. Than the warranty is VOID. If you install headers and do a tune, and your right front wheel bearing goes out at 7k miles. You still have a warranty and they can not deny the repair. UNLESS they can some how attribute that to the mod.n That is not my opinion, that is the law. It's called The Magnuson-Moss Act

Are you an adult? If not, then listen to your parents and be a good boy. If you are, then act like one, and make your own decisions.

If your warranty is voided due to the tune you'll have to get, and your car requires engine repair, will you be able to pay? If mom and dad have to pay so you don't take the bus, then don't do it. If you're ok paying a few grand without destroying every other aspect of your life, go for it. I was 18 and had a 3rd gen z28. Put a ton into it then totaled it. Not disrespecting you but your young brain, as smart as you are now, will see life totally differently than your more life experienced brain 20 years from now.
