Just had my supercharged TRD 4runner done. No sniffer. OBDII port and a visual. He did check and verify my CARB EO sticker for the supercharger.

You might think you will pass, but I suspect it is only getting harder. If the tech does a proper visual you will not even come close.

The biggest problem that I see with some of these mods that don't comply is not so much in the inspection, where some of you may know the right places to go where they turn the other way, it is if you get pulled over for speeding, loud exhaust, even no front plate and the LEO may check your car. If he finds issues they can send you to the state referee. Then you will have to remove and reinstall everything until it complies. CAI's, high flow cats, that's easy stuff. LT's, twin turbos, centrifugal chargers, expensive and time consuming. Not worth it in the long haul IMO.

A tuner has nothing to do with passing the visual portion of a California state emissions inspection. If the check engine light is off and all the required monitors have passed the next step is the visual. If you have a guy who can do the test with his eyes closed you can pass.

Or just pay the ref ticket and move on.
Don't have to waste your time de-modding and then re-modding that way.

Didn't think it was that easy. I've heard different, but, it sounds like you went through this. I think most Cali Camaros on this forum have something illegal, including myself. Nice N/A build you have there.

No, you do not just get to pay a fine and move on. You will not be able to register the vehicle until it is deemed legal.

You are right it's not that easy. The issue is 99% of the posts are completely inaccurate.

I believe you need to smog it as a ZL1 for it to be smog legal, call a state ref for the answer. The Z28 CAI isn't smog legal for your LS3, but swapping a 7.0 with that intake is with a vin to match or go my route and have a 73 that smog can't do shit about.

Not if I run that smog. Or if anyone who knows what they're doing runs the smog.

Need to talk to a referee if you convert to LSA unless you just get a CARB legal supercharger kit for your stock motor.

A lot of bar refs are cool. The others are all PITAS.

Not sure what you mean by "as a ZL1", since your VIN would either be Zl1 or not. Not like it's a matter of choice.

Either way OP, there are plenty of CARB certified superchargers. Why not pick one of those over the LSA?

Just did my smog OBDII does not pick up tune. However, all added on parts needs an EO number if you have a supercharger they will be looking for a sticker. No sticker you will fail. I had that issue on my shorty headers tried to pass Doug Thorley as Doug Headers. Ended up up having to buy a Doug/JBA headers and put them on.

If you are going LSA then I would look at edelbrock and avoid smog hassle but that's me

On conversion they look at complete motor and computer change. Not as simple or as inexpensive as upgrading a supercharger.
