If you get the manual and you are a cell phone junky like most young people you better either get the bluetooth package that comes with the 2LT 2SS or have a bluetooth to stick in your ear. Just try driving through town, shifting every block about 2-3 times while trying to hold your phone & steer all at the same time. 2 of my other toys are 4 speed's and I love driving them as toys but if I had to drive any of them as daily drivers I think I would get sick of it. Mine is going to be a toy so I want the manual! But hey your only young once, if that is what you want go for it!

I taught my kids to drive on a standard. They learned in Colorado Springs.Lots of hills. They had to prove to me they could stop at an up hill stoplight, hold the car in 1st gear without the brake and go on the green without killing the engine or chirping the tires. Good thing they learned, they both ride motorcycles. Just thought you might want a good self test of coordination.

ps - you will stall it. just go ahead & accept it
A manual trans is a blast to drive with for sure. Once you get it down you won't even have to think about it. Although, I tend to shift by sound of the engine............and have stalled every now and then if I got the music pumping at a stop

Would I buy one now? NO but that is because no way I could drive every day. 43 years old, football, basketball, wrestling, lifting, baseball............has taken its toll

nothing says you can't downshift, it's just a little easier on the drivetrain & clutch if you go to neutral when you know you're gonna stop

i also usually shift by sound. heck. my first car didn't even have a tach

If you're doing LOTS of stop and go traffic, driving a manual could get old.

That said, the Camaro's clutch is no where near has stiff as that old Grand Prix. But I just wanted to give you another perspective.
I prefer an automatic as well. After a while a manual becomes 'automatic' in that you just shift without thinking...until you're stuck in traffic and then you'll be wishing you had the auto! I'd rather let the car do the work of handling the shifting.

Been driving a manual for 10 years now. After a coulpe thousand miles you won't even think about it. It becomes automatic?

Just find a $200 beater car and learn on it while you wait for your camaro. The difference between a stick and an auto is you really enjoy driving a stick car. It's just a lot more fun even when going 20mph. Especially when your doing that in first gear you can just wind it up and feel the rush. Your car just comes alive. I will probably never by an auto again unless it's a "family car". I live in the northeast and the highways here are overcrowded and annoying during rush hour and it's not that bad having a stick vs. auto. To be honest it's more annoying when I'm stuck in traffic on my bike with the engine roasting me alive. GO STICK!!!! :-)

Get the manual! With the Fuel Management system in the auto it feels like your V8 is always in the 4 cylinder mode and then the exhaust sounds very weak.

The auto with the tap shifter in the new Camaro is quite good, very good actually. Set it to M1 and go, no clutch needed. Upshifts are very quick, quicker than a human can shift and you can keep your foot on the gas. When you get into stop and go traffic, push it up into D mode and no worries. You can even go from D into the S mode, tap the shifter and start controlling the gears whenever you want. Not to mention keeping both hands on the wheel is nice. I prefer auto all the way.
