what should I do

I'm sorry this is so long but I wanted everyone reading it to be aware of what's going on. In Dec of 2014 I bought a 2012 ZL1 automatic with 12,000 miles. Mods are headers, ported blower, 2.38 pulley, injectors, CAI, tune. The work and tune was done by Formato when the car was new. Someone high up at stingray Chevrolet drove the car on a dealer tag for a year and a half with the mods then Stingray sold the car with the mods as a new car so the warranty for the car started May 8th of 2013. After I bought the car I found all of this out and took it to Formato to have him go through the car and make sure it was good to go. I had a rear end put in the car and some other miscellaneous stuff done to the car under warranty since I've owned it. A week ago I pulled up to a stop sign, gave the car gas and it didn't move. Then around 1800 rpms the car clunked into gear like I did a neutral drop. The problem got worse over the next day to the point that almost every time I stopped the car went I to neutral and I had to feather the gas to bring get up line pressure in tranny so it would engage into gear. The car never threw a code until the third day as I took off from a dead stop it went Into gear then acted as if it was going to stall then it corrected itself and ran fine but threw the codes, P0700 (TCM) , P0751 (shift solenoid ) . I then called my dealer to explain what was going on and gave him the codes. He said bring it in it should be covered under warranty as there was a service bulletin for exactly what my car was doing and the codes. The service bulletin said to replace the valve body and electronics connected to it. I dropped the car off at the dealer only to get a call the next day saying they can't warranty it but they will work with me and do it for $1200 ($750 valve body, $450 labor). My local tranny shop wanted $1700 so I told the dealer to go ahead and do it. I did ask what if we get the valve body out and see its defective and my tune did not cause the problem can we warranty it at that time. He said no. I questioned him about that but never got a straight answer as why no warranty. Yesterday they told me the car was done and ready to be picked up. I drove 45 minutes to the dealer and he said he was finishing up my paperwork and to give him 10 minutes. He came back to his office to tell me the shop foreman just drove the car and it is still stalling at take off. He said they needed to look into why it was still doing that. Today I went to the dealer to drive the car myself to see exactly what it's doing. When the car was cold the transmission worked perfect but once it warmed up it did the exact same thing (going Into neutral and stalling) as before replacing the valve body. When I got back to the dealership I told my service writer it was doing the exact same thing . He said they would have to further investigate and they had spoke with the Chevy rep who told them to get line pressures from the transmission. I said I thought you got line pressures when you diagnosed the tranny before you put the valve body in and he said no. So I have a $1200 valve body that did nothing and have to spend more money to investigate the tranny on a car still under factory warranty on a part that has a service bulletin that they have made a revised version of the value body from 2012. What should I do as I am extremely frustrated at this point. The car has 23,000 miles now and is not tracked or hot rodded.

Sounds like maybe a torque converter issue?

This is why I have a manual car.

Did you take it back to stingray Chevrolet, or somewhere else?

Stingray said because of tune they couldn't do anything. I took it to another dealer that I always use and purchased a new vetted from. That is why they helped me out on the price for valve body.

If the dealer is not going to make this right, you may need to consider legal representation.

Id probably speak with the service manager 1st an explain what was done and it's the same issue. I'd be very calm during this conversation even if you want to rip his ass, don't. See if they will work with you on correcting the issue an absorbing most or part of your costs that didn't fix the issue. Hope things work out for you.

Did the service manager tell you that you still had to pay for the valve body they installed even though it did not fix the problem? If so tell them to take it back out and install the one that was in it. I am going to say it is the pump in the trans that is the problem but as was said before keep your cool and I bet they will help you out.

Stingray Chevrolet should never been allowed to sell that car as "new". And if they did and implied it still had factory warranty, then they should fix it. Drivetrain warranty is to 100,000 miles and 5 years. And TCM warranty is covered under federal emissions warranty to 80,000 miles or 8 years.

Exactly ⬆

They should never sold it as new, that long in inventory and it becomes a used car ....especially with the mods on it

Probably not his ONLY reason but definitely a plus. Buying new with a warranty is one thing but people tend to stay away from automatics with any sort of heavy mileage on them.

^^^100%!!!

Also, you should email the North American Corporate office. Be very detailed, especially the terms you agreed to on the warranty of your car. They should be able to help 'push' the dealership in the right direction on your situation.

Read your paperwork, it should tell you if it was sold "as is" or with warranty. If it's not in writing that there is a warranty, it's on your dime.

if they know the transmission is tuned, I would expect them to fight the repair bill with you till you give in. try escalating to regional customer service, but be prepared to fight. GM is getting tough when a tune is involved.
