Buying a previous rental ss with low mileage
Planning to buy a used ss. I've seen some good ones on carmax but those are mostly previous rental. They are generally extremely low mileage like under 10k some even 6k. Wonder if anyone have some insights on those cars. Is it okay to buy them? Or what would be your top concern with those cars.
Ps: my top concern is: why they were got rid of the rental market with that few miles? |

I'm sure they've been run hard sometimes ,but they're also inspected after each use so I'm sure they're fine to buy. Plus it will still have a factory warranty with that low of miles. Me personally wouldn't care

I'd never buy a previous rental car. I worked for a couple rental car companies while in college. If you think customers treat them like crap, you should see what the employees do to them.

What do the employees do?

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm also pretty inclined to buy them considering such good deals.

Donuts in the back lot, driving them like you stole them seconds after unloading off the truck, bumper tag, ignoring any type of warning lights or engine noise, ignoring regular maintenance and pretty much playing you're Bo and Luke Duke from the Duke's of Hazard.
It was also fun finding all the interesting things people left behind or just didn't want to take with them. So, so much free alcohol.

I bought an ex-Hertz Chrysler 200 convertible a couple of years ago and still have it. Only 13k miles when I bought it and it's been a nice trouble free car. A Camaro is probably more likely to be abused than a 200.
If it is being sold by a GM dealer it might have CPO status, which would be a plus. That was the case with my Chrysler. If the Camaro is a convertible it was probably driven for the sight-seeing experience instead of for the performance and could be a good buy. |

My last 2 Camaro's were rentals. With all the factory nannies the cars come with protecting the drive train. 11,000 miles is low miles. I would change out all the fluids to make sure the correct fluids are in it.

I have rented, therefore would avoid buying a rental.

You do things in rentals you don't do in your own car. That might include inside as well as outside the car...

I drive a rental just like any other car. The only difference is I am not picky when it comes to parking.

I actually hypermiled a rental I had once. I drove it nicer than I do my own car. I even parked it far away from other cars to reduce any likelyhood of any body damage happening to it. So, if it's the one that I drove, I took really good care of it. However, mine was a Hyundai Elantra, not a Camaro. lol!
